Last Updated: 2018-01-13

The Spanish LaLiga continues this weekend with round 19 that is scheduled after the matches in Copa del Rey, and there are a couple of intriguing matchups, but we picked the clash between Real Sociedad and Barcelona. The game will be played at Anoeta on Sunday, January 14th.

Visiting Anoeta is always a tricky journey for Barcelona as they don’t have such a positive record in San Sebastian, so we can expect an interesting duel. If any team can hand the Blaugrana the first defeat in LaLiga this season; that could be Sociedad, who have been playing extremely well against Barcelona in recent history. Read on and find out the current form of these two rivals, the betting trends and our betting pick in the end.

Real Sociedad vs. Barcelona

Three-Way: 1: Real Sociedad +550; X: +400 Draw; 2: Barcelona -227 at BetDSI Sportsbook

Spread +1.5: Real Sociedad -156; Barcelona +120

Total 3.5 goals: Over +100; Under -139

The Whites and Blues are in a poor form as they won only one out of the last seven LaLiga matches, including the latest one at Leganes. Real Sociedad dominated in the first half and had a few goal-scoring opportunities, but the hosts managed to keep the clean sheet and score at the other end to secure a 1-0 win. This defeat sent Sociedad to the bottom half of the table and they are sitting in the 13th place with 23 points, and although they are not in danger to go down to the relegation zone with a potential loss here, the current position is surely disappointing for the club of this quality.

Real Sociedad played 26 games so far in the 2017/18, recording 11 victories, five draws, and ten losses, with a goal difference of 50:39, which is 3.42 goals per contest on average. The Whites and Blues are not having the best of times at Anoeta recently as well as they won only one out of the last five matches at home, conceding 11 goals and scoring eight in return.

Willian Jose is the team’s top scorer with 12 goals in 24 appearances, while Mikel Oyarzabal with eight, and Diego Llorente with six goals are also key contributors to the attack. The captain Xabi Prieto is the best assist-maker with six dishes to his name, while Oyarzabal and Sergio Canales added five assists apiece. EusebioSacristán cannot count on Inigo Martinez (muscle), Antonio de la Bella (knee), and Imanol Agirretxe (hamstring).

Blaugrana is still without a defeat since the opening two losses to Real Madrid in the Supercup and are unbeaten in the last 28 matches in all competitions. Barcelona destroyed Celta 5-0 in the second leg of Copa del Rey following a 1-1 draw in the first leg and Ernesto Valverde’s team qualified for the ¼ finals without problems. Leo Messi’s brace, and goals from Luis Suarez, Jordi Alba, and Ivan Rakitic secured a massive win, while Barca has four wins in a row in LaLiga, where they are lonely at the top with 48 points, nine ahead of Atletico Madrid and even 16 more than arch-rivals Real Madrid. The latest acquisitions of Philippe Coutinho and Yerry Mina additionally improved Valverde’s team, and they are looking stronger comparing it with the beginning of the season.

Barcelona played 30 games in this campaign, recording 22 victories, six draws, and two losses, with a goal difference of 72:14, which is 2.86 goals per contest on average. When it comes to away matches, Blaugrana drew six out of the last ten, but conceded only three goals in the process, scoring 16 in return.

Leo Messi is the team’s leading scorer with 22 goals in 27 appearances, while Luis Suarez with 12, and Paulinho with seven goals are also playing an integral part in the attack. Messi is the most creative individual at Nou Camp as he leads the team with ten assists; Jordi Alba has nine dishes, while Sergi Roberto added seven assists to his name so far. Ernesto Valverde is without Philippe Coutinho who is dealing with a thigh injury and will not make his debut on this one, while Samuel Umtiti (muscle), and PacoAlcacer (muscle) are also unavailable.

Real Sociedad vs. Barcelona – Betting Trends and Match Prediction

  • Sociedad conceded a goal in each of the last six home games
  • Sociedad scored in eight out of the last ten vs. Barcelona at Anoeta
  • Barcelona scored in every away match in LaLiga this season
  • Barcelona allowed three goals in the last ten on the road

Sociedad is a very unpleasant opponent for Barcelona when it comes to matches in San Sebastian as Blaugrana won only once in the previous nine duels at Anoeta; it was last season in Copa del Rey when Barca won 1-0. The visitors didn’t taste a league win here in the past seven meetings since 2007 to be precise, while Sociedad recorded five wins in that span, so I am not convinced the visitors will get three points here. The last four encounters ended with less than three goals, so I am backing under on this one.

MY PICK: Under 3.5 goals (-139)
