NCAA Basketball Pick – March 13th

Bubble drama will begin to unfold at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday afternoon in one of the biggest games of the season for the Cincinnati Bearcats and the Providence Friars.

There is no doubt that the Friars have to have this game and at least one more if they are going to have a shot at dancing come Selection Sunday. Even that might not be enough when push comes to shove, but at least the Selection Committee would be forced to pay some attention to this team due to its great end of the season push. Providence has won seven of its last nine games, and the most recent loss came by just four points in overtime on the road at the Connecticut Huskies. There was only one blowout loss in the bunch, and there is no shame in getting trounced at the Carrier Dome against the Syracuse Orange. Another key factor towards putting the Friars in the tourney would be their exciting level of play. There really are some great players on this team. G Vincent Council is one of the best distributors in the entire conference, and he is averaging 7.0 assists per night. G Bryce Cotton is a cold-blooded shooter who is averaging 19.6 points per game. F Kadeem Betts and F LaDontae Henton are also combining for 28.6 points and 15.8 rebounds per game.

Just a few weeks ago, the Bearcats probably thought that they were a lock to get into the NCAA Tournament. Some think that they are okay regardless of what happens in this one, but we know that there are going to be some tense moments if this one is lost. Just as Providence has played well down the stretch and has given the Selection Committee something positive to think about, UC has done the exact opposite. The Bearcats are 2-4 in their last six and 3-6 in their last nine games. The wins over Villanova at home, Connecticut at home, and South Florida at home (in overtime!) most certainly weren’t all that impressive, and when you really look back at this resume, there isn’t a lot of bulk here. G Sean Kilpatrick is a nice player, but at times, he is all that Cincinnati is bringing to the table offensively. This is a great defense, but as we have seen time and time again this year, the slumping offense often keeps this team from living up to its full potential.

This is going to be a great game to start off the four-pack of battles on the college basketball betting odds at MSG on Wednesday. Don’t be shocked if this one comes right down to the wire. If that’s the case, we want Cotton on our side taking that final shot, as we have confidence that he can put away the Bearcats and keep the Friars’ season alive in one swoop. It will be a sweat for Cincinnati from here to get into the dance. Providence 69 – Cincinnati 67
