Struggling teams trying to make some headway will meet in NHL betting action on the NBC Sports Network on Tuesday night, when the Nashville Predators take on the New York Rangers at famed Madison Square Garden.

Nashville is just having a horrid time right now on both ends of the ice, and it is a wonder if it is going to have any shot of recovering from this terrible stretch at any point this season. It’s going to take a lot of wins to get back on track, as five straight losses, all but one of which have come by at least two goals, and three of the five of which came by three goals isn’t something easy to recover from. It starts with creating quality chances. There have been plenty of shots on goal, but those haven’t been of the highest quality at this point, especially on the power play. The Preds haven’t scored a power play goal in five straight games, going 0-for-14 in that stretch. The offensive firepower just isn’t here. C David Legwand has five goals and 15 assists, but no one else on the team has more than 15 points for the campaign. No one has more than seven goals in the team’s 30 games either.

The Rangers are having their own offensive problems to deal with at the moment. They haven’t delivered any of the promises that they had at the start of this season, as a team with C Brad Richards, a budding C Derek Stepan, RW Ryan Callahan, and LW Rick Nash really should be producing more offense than this. As it is, Richards leads the team with 23 points, but no one else on the club has more than 20 points, and there are no double-digit goal scorers coming into Tuesday’s 32nd game of the season. On top of that, G Henrik Lundqvist really has struggled. He has allowed eight goals in his last two starts, and now he has to get ready to take on the Predators. He has a .914 save percentage and a 2.58 GAA, which by average standards, isn’t terrible. But for a goalie of this stature, one which has won all sorts of big games in his career, that just isn’t good enough to carry this team.

In the end, this is an ugly game. Nashville seems to be a lost cause right now. Lundqvist simply isn’t going to struggle this much all season long, and the Rangers are going to get the benefit of the doubt from us having played so many road games this year already versus not nearly as many home games. Perhaps being back on home ice will help. It hasn’t of late, as the last two games were lost at -163 and -204 favorites here at MSG, but this should be the exception to what has become a brutal rule.
