Poinsettia Bowl Betting: Louisiana Tech vs. TCU Pick

Poinsettia Bowl

The 2011 Poinsettia Bowl kicks off on Wednesday night at Qualcomm Stadium, and it should be a real doozy of a game, as the TCU Horned Frogs look to beat the NCAA football odds against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs.

Louisiana Tech has absolutely nothing to lose in this game whatsoever. The team is expected to get killed, as basically all of the members of the WAC are expecting this year in the bowl season. Anything better than that would be a pleasant surprise, and an upset would really spurn the team in the right direction for the future. The Bulldogs generally take pretty good care of the football, and they have done a great job under the direction of QB Colby Cameron. Cameron took over for QB Nick Asham about halfway through the season, and La Tech hasn’t looked back since that point. The team hasn’t lost a game with Cameron calling the shots, and it is clear to see why. He is averaging a shade over 200 passing yards per start, and he has only thrown two picks against 11 TDs. On the ground, there is still a bit of a question as to whether RB Lennon Creer, the team’s leading rusher, is going to be able to give it a go or not, as he is dealing with an ankle injury.

BetOnline.comOver the past few years, TCU has played in a number of illustrious bowl games, either against teams from major conferences with great histories, or against fellow mid-majors that were considered amongst the best teams in the nation. Unfortunately, this is the first year in quite some time that that isn’t the case, and it definitely leaves a bit of a question mark out there as to what we can expect out of the men in purple and black. Especially after the Houston Cougars were beaten by the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles on the final day of the regular season, the Frogs had to think that they were headed back to the BCS once again, most likely to the Sugar Bowl. However, they didn’t get any help from the human voters or the computers in the final BCS rankings, and they didn’t make it into the Top 16. QB Casey Pachall still has a fantastic team to work with though, and this is a squad that can stick with any team in America. The ground game, headed by RBs Ed Wesley, Matthew Tucker, and Waymon James, is as good as it gets as well.

Poinsettia Bowl Keys to the Game: Simply put, the Horned Frogs have to want to be here in San Diego for this game. We wouldn’t blame them if they didn’t take this bowl game all that seriously, especially against a WAC school. The Bulldogs are going to be thrilled to be here, and we think that they are going to pull every single trick out of the book to beat a team that is clearly superior in terms of talent.
