The MLB betting action goes on with 15 games on the first day of June, bringing plenty of intriguing markets, so we’re taking a closer look at the National League battle from Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles to get you the best Pirates vs. Dodgers betting pick and odds.

According to BetOnline Sportsbook, the Dodgers are heavy -235 moneyline favorites to win this clash. The Pirates pulled off a massive upset this past Monday, beating the Dodgers 6-5 as +280 road underdogs, while the middle game of this set is excluded from the analysis.

The Bucs aim for another upset

Just a few weeks ago, the Pittsburgh Pirates have defeated the mighty LA Dodgers in a three-game series at PNC Park. They’ve sandwiched a heavy 11-1 loss with a couple of wins, 5-1 and 5-3. The Bucs pulled off another upset this past Monday, rallying from a 5-4 deficit in the top of the ninth.

Pittsburgh improved to 20-27 on the season. The Pirates occupied the third spot in the NL Central, trailing the St. Louis Cardinals by four games and the Milwaukee Brewers by ten and a half. The Bucs are scoring only 3.43 runs per contest (28th in the MLB) while surrendering 5.19 in a return (26th).

Jose Quintana will toe the rubber Wednesday and face the Blue Crew for the second time this season. The 33-year-old southpaw tossed six scoreless innings in a 5-1 win to the Dodgers on May 9, scattering just a couple of hits and issuing four free passes. Quintana carries a 1-2 record, 2.15 ERA, and 1.17 WHIP in nine starts (46 innings) in 2022.

The Dodgers seek revenge

The Los Angeles Dodgers put an end to their four-game streak last Monday. They overcame an early 4-0 deficit, but Craig Kimbrel couldn’t finish the job, tallying his first blown save of the season. Walker Buehler had a bad day in the office, too, giving up four earned runs on two homers through six frames of work.

The Dodgers fell to 33-15 on the season, still topping the NL West comfortably. They were also tied with the New York Yankees for the best record in the majors. The Dodgers have dropped only three of their previous 16 games at any location.

Mitch White will toe the slab Wednesday and make his third start of the season. Through his seven appearances (15.2 innings pitched) in 2022, the 27-year-old right-hander has recorded a 4.60 ERA, 4.22 FIP, and 1.21 WHIP. Last week, White threw four scoreless innings in a 14-1 dismantling of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Trends:

Pittsburgh:

  • 1-12 in the last 13 road games against the Dodgers

LA Dodgers:

  • 13-3 in the last 16 games overall
  • 17-3 in the last 20 games against Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Pick

The current Pirates have only a couple of hits in 19 at-bats against Mitch White. The Dodgers can also lean on their bullpen, which has registered a sharp 2.57 ERA and 3.16 FIP over the last ten days. On the other side, the Pirates’ relievers have recorded a 4.28 ERA and 4.54 FIP in that span.

Jose Quintana kept the Dodgers quiet in Pittsburgh, and I’m expecting a different scenario this time around. Mookie Betts, who’s been outstanding as of late, is 6-for-19 with a pair of doubles and a home run against Quintana. Chris Taylor is 6-for-17 with two doubles, Trea Turner is 3-for-7, while Freddie Freeman has three hits and a homer in ten at-bats versus the Bucs’ lefty.

Pick: Take Los Angeles Dodgers -1.5 at -110

The Total:

I would stick with the hosts to win and beat the runline. The totals look like a tricky bet, though I lean toward the over because of the Pirates’ shaky bullpen and Dodgers’ prolific offense.

The Dodgers are tallying 5.56 runs per game, enough for the most in the majors. They also lead the MLB in OPS (.770). The only problem is their bullpen, which could easily shut down the Pirates.

Pick: Go over 8.5 runs at -120
