Nick Swisher agrees to 4-year, $56 million deal with Indians
By C. Trent Rosecrans cbssportsline.com

Nick Swisher and the Indians have agreed to a four-year deal worth $56 million and an "easy" vesting option for a fifth season that could bring the total value to $70 million. Swisher, 32, hit .272/.364/.473 with 24 home runs for the Yankees last season. He was born in Ohio, grew up in West Virginia and played collegiately at Ohio State before he was drafted by the A's in first round in 2002.

In parts of nine seasons in the big leagues, Swisher's a .256/.361/.467 hitter with 209 home runs. An All-Star in 2010, Swisher has primarily played right field, first base and designated hitter throughout his career. The switch-hitter has also played all three outfield spots.

Swisher will likely patrol right field for the Indians, who traded incumbent Shin-Soo Choo to the Reds earlier this month.

The Indians will not lose their first-round pick in the 2013 draft by signing Swisher. Because Cleveland has a pick in the top 10, their pick is protected. The Indians will instead surrender a second-round pick to the Yankees.

Cleveland reportedly made a full-court press to sign Swisher. Last week, the team brought him and his wife in for what sounded like a collegiate recruiting visit. According to several reports, former Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel came to help recruit him while current Buckeye coaches Urban Meyer and Thad Matta recorded video messages that were played for Swisher on Progressive Field's video board.
