St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - Willie Harris capped a big ninth-inning rally with a two-run single, as the New York Mets beat the Cardinals, 8-6, hampering St. Louis' chances of reaching the postseason. The Cardinals, who allowed six runs in the ninth inning, fell two games back of the wild card-leading Braves and five behind NL Central-leading Milwaukee with six games to go. Atlanta and Milwaukee were idle Thursday. St. Louis has three games at home this weekend against the Cubs before finishing the season with three in Houston.

Final Score: Los Angeles 8, San Francisco 2

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Hiroki Kuroda went seven-plus innings while Matt Kemp and Juan Rivera both hit a two-run homer, as the Dodgers downed the Giants, 8-2, dealing San Francisco another blow to its playoff hopes. With the loss in the rubber match of the three-game series, the Giants fell four games behind the NL wild card-leading Braves and six games behind the NL West- leading Diamondbacks, both of which were idle Thursday. The Giants begin a three-game set in Arizona on Friday. Arizona's magic number is one to win the division. In the Dodgers final home game of the season, Kuroda (13-16) allowed two runs on five hits to earn the win. He struck out four and did not issue a walk.

Final Score: Washington 6, Philadelphia 1

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Michael Morse hit a three-run homer and Brad Peacock tossed 5 2/3 scoreless innings, as the Nationals completed a four-game sweep of the Phillies with a 6-1 victory. Peacock (2-0), in his second career start, gave up just one hit, walked two and struck out two to earn the win. Roger Bernadina went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI for the Nationals, winners of five in a row and 11 of their last 14 games. Roy Oswalt (8-10) allowed six runs on seven hits over 7 2/3 innings to suffer the loss. He walked two and fanned four. Carlos Ruiz went 3-for-4 with an RBI in Philadelphia's final home game of the regular season. The Phillies have lost a season-high six straight games since locking up their fifth consecutive NL East title on Saturday. They have already secured home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

Final Score: Houston 9, Colorado 6

Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Matt Downs' pinch-hit, three-run double in the seventh inning proved to be the winner as Houston downed Colorado, 9-6, in the opener of a four-game set. Carlos Lee went 1-for-2 with four RBI and a run scored while Jose Altuve scored twice for the Astros, who had lost five of seven coming in. Henry Sosa (3-5) gave up three runs on nine hits with a walk and four strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings to snap a three-start losing streak. Wilin Rosario hit a three-run home run while Kevin Kouzmanoff went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, two RBI and two runs scored for the Rockies, who have lost their last eight games. Alex White (2-3) dropped his second straight start as he was tagged for five runs on six hits over just 4 2/3 innings.
