Looks like it will be easy and that's exactly what it should be as the Lumberjacks return to Sam Boyd Stadium Saturday night. Northern Arizona and UNLV will play each other for the 1st time in two decades.

The Rebels may be more NAU's speed after they were dismissed last week against Arizona State 63-6 but it's not likely.

This week I expect a dominating performance from the Rebels but in order to achieve the anticipated, lopsided outcome, they must be able to rely on better play from their young secondary who, in large part was responsible for allowing 478 yards last week to Minnesota.

The Lumberjacks, who are 2-5 all-time against the Rebels (0-4 at Sam Boyd), will attempt to exploit Freshman DB Peni Vea who finished with 9 tackles, 4 solo last week, far to many tackles for a DB. Vea appeared to not anticipate cutbacks well leaving him with failed arm tackle attempts.

One of the problems that UNLV will continue to have this season is their inability to rely on their corners which hinders them from stopping the run or applying QB pressure.

Vea and Sophomore SS Tajh Hasson look like they react to plays rather than anticipating plays. When they are better at anticipating that is when they will be able to be more physical. Right now the secondary is soft which makes it even more important that Rebel RB Tim Cornett has a big season. Keep the defense off the field. Busted coverages, over pursuing, and arm tackles will pave the way for 500 yards allowed on the weekly basis for the gang on Maryland Parkway.

Interesting to note that Rebel Head Coach Bobby Hauck was an assistant at NAU during the 1993-94 season along with 3 rd year Rebel offensive coordinator Brent Myers who coached at NAU from 92-97.

Also worth noting, it appears as if Senior punter, Chase Lansford, will also be a defensive weapon. Chase averaged almost 50 yards a punt in last weeks triple overtime loss. His presence should allow UNLV to win most field position battles. I would be shocked to see him very much this week.

The Rebels should easily break a six game losing streak and improve their record against the Big Sky to 30-10-1 overall. If not the anticipation for basketball will ramp up a few more notches.
