Kevin Garnett scored 24 points and Paul Pierce added 23 athe Boston Celtics beat the Miami Heat 101-91 at TD Garden cutting the deficit to 2-1 in the Eastern Conference FInals. The big ticket shot 10/16 (63%) overall and grabbed a team high 11 rebounds. Pierce made only 7/21 (33%) from the floor but connected on all 7 of his free throw attempts. Rajon Rondo contributed 21 points on 9/16 (56%) overall, collected 6 rebounds and dished out a team high 10 assists. he Celtics shot an even 50% from the field including 5/17 (29%) from 3 point range and converted 20/26 (77%) from the charity stripe. Boston outrebounded Miami 44-32 and committed 13 turnovers despite recording just 16 assists. Lebron James led Miami with 34 points on 16/26 (62%) overall along with 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Dwayne Wade added 18 on 9/20 (45%) and Mario Chalmers contributed 14 along with 6 assists. The Heat shot nearly 50% including 5/17 (29%) from beyond the arc but converted only 10/20 (50%) from the free throw line, clearly the difference in the final outcome. They recorded 20 assists and committed only 10 turnovers but trailed by double digits for most of the final 3 quarters. Boston outscored Miami 25-14 in the second quarter and took a 55-42 lead into the locker room. The Celtics extended ittheir lead to 24 points early in the fourth quarter before Miami came back and cut it to 95-87 with help from three 3-pointers by Mike Miller. But James had a turnover and missed a 3-pointer in the last 2 minutes to squelch the Heat's hope of a comeback. Miami still trailed by eight points with the ball when Dwyane Wade missed and Ray Allen grabbed the rebound, sending Rondo on a fast break that made it a 99-89 with 99 seconds to play. James threw the ball away underneath, then missed a 3-point attempt the next time down -- one of only four shots he took in the fourth quarter. Pierce found Garnett for a long jumper at the other end, and the teams began emptying their benches. Miami was outscored 15-0 from the late first quarter until midway through the second which turned a 6 point deficit into a 39-30 lead with just under 6:00 remaining in the half. Boston has a chance to even the series tomorrow night at 8:30 PM EST.
