Magglio Ordonez to announce retirement

Not that it's a surprise, but Magglio Ordonez will officially announce his retirement on Sunday at Comerica Park in Detroit.

Ordonez, 38, spent the final seven seasons of his career with Tigers after eight years with the White Sox. A career .309/.369/.502 hitter, Ordonez was a six-time All-Star and finished second in All-Star voting in 2007, when he also won the American League batting title.

But in Detroit, Ordonez will always be remembered for his walk-off homer in Game 4 of the 2006 ALCS, sending the Tigers to the World Series.

Ordonez, one of the best players to ever come from Venezuela, suffered a season-ending injury to his ankle in last season's American League Championship Series. He had reportedly hoped to play again in 2012 but didn't find a team. He hit .255/.303/.331 with five home runs in 92 games last season.

The Tigers will honor Ordonez on the field before Sunday's game.
