Lohse hasn’t topped the 100-pitch plateau through four starts this season and has allowed only three total runs on 16 hits. His control has been fantastic, walking just two batters so far. He would be heading into this start 4-0 if it weren’t for a blown save.
Jake Peavy, Chicago White Sox – 3-0, 1.88 ERA
It looks like Peavy’s shoulder is just fine following a long stint of rehab. After struggling last season and suffering the shoulder injury in July, the veteran fired his 10th career complete game in shutting out Oakland 4-0 Monday. He gave up just three hits while striking out five. He has struck out at least five in all four of his starts this year, limiting opposing batters to a .172 average.
Erik Bedard, Pittsburgh Pirates – 0-4, 2.63 ERA
Bedard is still looking for his first win in a Pirates uniform, but he is hardly to blame for his 0-4 start. He has allowed seven runs total so far and just one homer. The problem is Pittsburgh has scored just three times with the lefty on the bump. He has 17 strikeouts compared to 10 walks in 24 innings of work.
Freddy Garcia, New York Yankees – 0-1, 9.75 ERA
Garcia lasted just 1 2/3 innings in his last outing as the Boston Red Sox spanked him for seven hits and five runs. The veteran righty threw 5 2/3 innings in his start before that, but still gave up five runs and nine hits in a 7-3 loss to Minnesota.
