After taking all the divison one conferences, breaking out the conference champions and at larges, I only come up with 60 teams out of a potential 68 that deserve to be in the tourney. Let's hope this final week and during conference play that there are bubble team that can make their cases. While there are quite a few conferences that are deep and relatively strong, overall this is a weak field on paper. Curious to hear everyone else's thoughts.

I think it is safe to say that all the teams that make it are not the best teams in the country. There are always better teams who get left out. That is just the way it is and I am fine with it. You don't want to take away the dream of the smaller colleges. It seems every year one of those teams come out of nowhere and makes a great run.

Nice question Jimmy. Lets here what others think.

I agree with Mark. I dont really care if there are 64 or 68 teams that deserve it. I want to see the smaller schools have a shot. Certainly they are pitted up against a #1 or #2 seed but that still is a great way to get the school some marketing and an even better chance to offer the kids a chance to experience the tournament.

There are so many state schools like Michigan, Florida and so on that have an enrollment of 40,000 or 50,000 students and there are others that are private schools that have a 4,000 or 5,000 enrollment. No different than Butler. How great is it for us to see these smaller schools when they are having a good year. Of course they may not compete on a week to week basis with the 8th seed of the SEC or Big 10. But in high school you were classified based on your enrollment for the most part, here everyone is a part of the same tournament.

So bring on the best and I would rather see a Murray State type team that has a great year going 28-4 going to the dance then giving that to an Illinois school that goes 18-13.

Plus its not whether you win or lose early in the tournament its whether you cover, right.
