Pac-12 gets love in latest Associated Press poll

There was plenty of movement in the latest USA Today college football coaches' poll released Sunday, but not at the top.

While five ranked teams lost and another five escaped with narrow wins, LSU and Alabama were idle and remained in the top two slots, setting up their showdown next weekend.

LSU received 41 first-place votes and 1,457 points while Alabama received 18 and 1,434. The SEC West rivals both are 8-0 and meet in Birmingham on Saturday night.

Stanford remained third after escaping with a triple-overtime win over USC. Oklahoma State and Boise State remained fourth and fifth, respectively.

The highest-ranked one loss team is Oregon (7-1), up one spot to sixth and followed by Oklahoma, Arkansas, Nebraska and South Carolina. The latter two schools each climbed four rungs.

Virginia Tech also moved up four slots to 11th and is followed by Clemson, Michigan, Houston, Penn State, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Arizona State, Kansas State and Georgia.

Clemson dropped four spots, Michigan State and Wisconsin six and Kansas State seven as all four schools lost Saturday. Unbeaten Houston (8-0) and Penn State each climbed four rungs.

West Virginia jumped three spots to 21st and is followed by Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Southern Miss and Texas. Georgia Tech and Texas are new entries this week, while Texas A&M and Texas Tech dropped out.

Andrew Luck and Stanford leap Boise State in BCS standings

LSU, Alabama and Oklahoma State held onto the top three spots in the latest BCS standings, while Stanford moved up one position to fourth.

Clemson dropped from fifth to No. 11 after its first loss of the season.

Rounding out the top 10 are No. 6 Oklahoma, Arkansas, Oregon, South Carolina and Nebraska.

Both LSU and Alabama were idle this weekend but will meet Saturday in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
