The 2022 MLB season goes on Saturday, April 30, with the NL East showdown at Citi Field in New York, so we bring you the best Phillies vs. Mets betting pick along with the latest odds update on Bookmaker Sportsbook.

Philadelphia squares off against New York in the middle contest of their three-game series. The Mets open as -120 home favorites with a total of 7.5 runs, while the Phillies sit at +110 moneyline odds.

The Phillies’ pitching staff has improved

Friday night’s opener at Citi Field has been excluded from the analysis, and the 10-10 Phillies were listed as +112 dogs with a total of 6.5 runs. Philadelphia was searching for its fifth consecutive victory after sweeping the Colorado Rockies in a four-game set at home.

The Phillies outscored Colorado 32-9. Their pitching staff did a great job, and Kyle Gibson, who’ll get the ball Saturday in New York, tossed 5.2 innings of a two-run ball in an 8-2 victory over the Rockies in the opener. Over the last seven days, Philadelphia has recorded a sharp 2.50 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, and .208 batting average against.

Kyle Gibson is 2-1 with a 3.47 ERA and 0.99 WHIP in four starts (23.1 innings) in 2022. The veteran righty was electric in his season debut, striking out ten across seven scoreless innings in a 4-2 win to the Athletics. However, he’s struggled a bit in his next two starts, allowing seven earned runs on 11 hits and five walks through 10.2 frames of work.

The Mets look nice on both sides of the ball

The 14-6 New York Mets entered the Phillies series as the best team in the majors. It’s early to jump to a serious conclusion, but the Mets look like a serious World Series contender. New York has scored 94 runs over its first 20 games (3rd in the MLB) and surrendered 61 in a return (5th).

The Metsies rank second in both batting average (.259) and on-base percentage (.343). They are 11th in slugging percentage (.392) and second in OPS+ (122). On the other side of the ball, New York has registered a 2.93 ERA (4th), 1.04 WHIP (2nd), and .202 batting average against (also 2nd).

Taijuan Walker will get the starting call Saturday, his second in 2022. The 29-year-old right-hander fanned four across a couple of perfect innings against Philadelphia on April 11 but had to exit after 30 pitches due to a shoulder injury. He’ll return to the Mets’ rotation after throwing 64 pitches in a simulated game last Monday.

Trends:

Philadelphia:

  • 3-11 in the last 14 games on the road

NY Mets:

  • 8-3 in the last 11 games overall
  • 4-1 in the last five games at home

Philadelphia Phillies vs. New York Mets Pick

Taijuan Walker might be on a pitch count, and the Mets hope he’ll pick up where he left off. He dominated the Phillies last time they met, though the current Phillies are 23-for-83 with nine home runs against Walker. On the other side, the current Mets are slashing .271/.366/.392 with a couple of dingers in 160 at-bats against Kyle Gibson.

The Mets’ bullpen is arguably better than the Phillies’, but Philadelphia’s relief pitching has improved a lot over the last seven days, posting a 2.38 ERA and 3.51 FIP in the process. This game could easily go either way, and I lean the Mets because of their pitching staff.

Pick: Take New York Mets at -120

The Total:

Both Kyle Gibson and Tajiuan Walker could easily allow a couple of runs through the first five innings, so I’m taking the over. Although both bullpens have pitched well lately, these two teams own plenty of dangerous bats in their lineups.

It’s a tricky wager, and the line at 7.5 runs doesn’t help a lot. The Phillies and Mets met in Week 2, and New York won a three-game series in Philadelphia. The opening clash saw a push at 9.0 runs; Game 2 went under an 8.5 line (2-0), while the closing contest saw New York beat Phila 9-6.

Pick: Go over 7.5 runs at -110
