Philadelphia Eagles vs. Dallas Cowboys Free Pick, Trends, and Preview
- Updated: December 11, 2010
(8-4, 6-6 ATS)
(4-8, 5-7 ATS)
The Dallas Cowboys know that they don’t stand a chance of getting into the playoffs this year, but they also know that they can put a real crimp in the season of the Philadelphia Eagles for a second straight season. These two will meet on Sunday Night Football in Arlington in Week 14.
Philly’s offense has been unstoppable this season, especially when QB Michael Vick has been in the lineup. It was clearly a mistake for Head Coach Andy Reid to start QB Kevin Kolb at the start of the year, but at least he realized the error of his ways before the season got too deep. The Eagles are tied atop the NFC East, and they have three tremendous divisional games left to decide whether it will be them or the New York Giants earning the first round home game. Both of those teams are fighting with the Green Bay Packers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the New Orleans Saints for the two Wild Card slots that the conference has to offer, and every win is critical at this juncture of the season. Vick’s offense has put up a league high 400.7 yards per game this year and is second in the NFL and first in the AFC in second at 28.7 points per game. No unit has held this team under 26 points since its bye week, and in that stretch, Philadelphia is 4-1 SU and 3-2 ATS. Defensively though, there have been some issues, as Reid’s men have allowed an average of 26.8 points per game since Week 7.
The Cowboys are probably just one fumble by WR Roy Williams away from being 5-7 and at least within potential shouting distance of the playoffs. Under interim Head Coach Jason Garrett, the team is 3-1 SU and 4-0 ATS, and he is clearly on track to become the next full time coach of the team starting next year as well. Though we could be just a week or so away from seeing QB Tony Romo healthy enough to come back to the lineup, this is probably QB Jon Kitna’s team for the rest of the year. Kitna hasn’t played phenomenally, but he has gotten the job done, particularly in recent weeks. The journeyman has thrown for 1,703 yards and 11 TDs in just six starts this year. The ground game got a real boost last week from RB Tashard Choice, who had 19 carries for 100 yards, and he might be called upon once again to replace the injured RB Marion Barber, who was held out last week. RB Felix Jones is still the leader of this team on the ground, and though he only has 531 yards and has yet to find the end zone, he is improving each and every week.
Dallas is a lot better than your average 4-8 team right now, but that doesn’t mean that it is winning this game. The Eagles have a long memory after losing all three games to the Cowboys last year, including twice in back to back weeks here in Week 17 and in the first round of the playoffs. With Vick in command, the offense for Philly will fly high once again, and it will put the Cowboys to sleep once and for all.
