It’s back to Philadelphia for Game 6 of the Eastern Conference playoff series between the Toronto Raptors and the Philadelphia 76ers. Toronto opened as 1-point favorites and have moved to -2 after getting close to 70% of the early wagers in this game, while the total has held fairly steady at 213 on pretty good two-way action.
After falling behind 2-1, the Raptors turned things up a notch and now have a chance to put the series away on the road and their last victory was their most impressive yet, as they came out strong and didn’t let up in a 125-89 victory.
The tough aspect on this one is that the series wager will be decided tonight, having taken the Raptors -1.5 games to win the series at even money, so a Toronto win will give us the series win, while a 76ers win will hand us a loss on that wager. So we can take a free shot on the 76ers +115 and have the series bet cancel out with Philadelphia or even wager .9 units on Philadelphia and squeeze out a few dollars profit. If the line climbs to 2.5 or 3, then there’s also the possibility of going for a middle. But since not everybody has the series wager going, we’ll look at the game a little bit more.
So far, we haven’t had the one game where both teams shoot well and have had just a couple where even one team was solid from the field. As a result, four of the five games have gone under the total and it took all 125 points the Raptors scored last game to get Game 5 to sneak over the number by 1.5 points.
The 76ers won Game 3 easily and then dropped Game 4 by a 101-96 final in a game where they simply weren’t very good from the field and a little below average on 3-pointers. That was a direct contradiction to what happened in Game 3 when Philadelphia came out hard and grabbed a 64-53 halftime lead, so difficult to tell how this one transpires.
The 76ers should fare a little bit better in a higher-scoring game, as that suits them a little better than a defensive type of game even though they did a 94-89 contest in Toronto, so I’d expect the 76ers to try and come out and play a little more wide open in this one and they need to keep the turnovers down, having made 19 last game.
Going to take a shot on the over 213 in this one, as I think the 76ers will try and force the issue a little bit.
