The 76ers have to feel good that they were at least in the game with the Bulls for a bit and that they figured out how to put 91 points on the board. Of course, there is a real question right now as to whether or not they are going to be able to stop the big boys for the Bulls. The team really had problems on the glass, where they only had 38 rebounds, against the 47 that Chicago amassed. The shooting effort wasn’t all that great, accounting for just a 39.8 shooting percentage, an Andre Iguodala was the big problem, going just 3-of-11. Iguodala though, was one of the five players that got into double digits in scoring when push came to shove. Lou Williams, the team’s leading scorer put up just nine points on 1-of-6 shooting. The team shot just 1-of-9 from beyond the arc as well. The good news is that the Sixers did win the turnover battle in Game 1, and keeping good care of the rock is going to be the key to finding ways to win games in this series.
Head Coach Tom Thibodeau is going to really be questioning his decisions over the course of the end of Game 1. He left Derrick Rose on the court in a game that was all but over so he could try to get his triple-double. Instead, Rose tore his ACL, ending his season, and he came up a board and an assist shy. He did have 23 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists, and he was one of the five that made it into double digits for the Bulls as well. Rip Hamilton really brought his playoff experience to the table in Game 1, knocking down six of his seven shots from the field, accounting for 19 points. Luol Deng, Joakim Noah, and Carlos Boozer combined for 38 points and 26 rebounds. Those are relatively modest numbers, but it felt like every time the ball made it into the paint, easy shots were coming. Kyle Korver came off of the bench to score 11, while Taj Gibson had seven points. CJ Watson scored just four points and had five assists in 11 minutes, and he is going to be the one called into action with Rose on the bench for the rest of the year.
Philadelphia 76ers @ Chicago Bulls Pick: The 76ers are getting too much respect now with Rose out of the lineup. The Bulls went 38-27-1 ATS this year for a reason, and they did a lot of that without Rose out there. Philadelphia just isn’t going to be able to get the job done on the road, though we think that this game is going to be a lot more competitive than Game 1 was.
