NBA Betting: Indiana Pacers vs NY Knicks
- Updated: March 19, 2014
The Indiana Pacers have won four games in a row, although they haven’t been covering any numbers lately in the NBA betting lines. The New York Knicks have been on a streak of six straight victories, covering five of those games. These teams will get together at Madison Square Garden in a game that tips off at 8:05 PM ET.
Indiana possesses a record of 50-17 straight-up, with a mark of 34-32-1 against the basketball pointspread. The Pacers are three games ahead of the Miami Heat in the overall Eastern Conference standings. The Knicks are launching one last desperate attempt to catch up to the Atlanta Hawks, who are sitting in the eighth and final playoff spot in the East at the moment. They are 27-40 straight-up, and on an overall basis, have not been a profitable venture against the basketball odds, the 29-38 record in that category.
New York what some life even before the announcement that Phil Jackson was coming in to become the team president. Now, his appointment seems to have captured the attention of everyone in the organization, as they wonder about who will be standing by the time next season rolls around.
Indiana Pacers -2
New York Knicks +2

Under 194.5 points -110
There was a period where Indiana had lost four games in a row, and that might have been an ideal time for the defending champion Heat to really put some pressure on for the #1 spot in the East. But Miami did anything but catch fire, and the Pacers appeared fortunate to dodge the bullet. They have now won four consecutive games, and have taken advantage of some of the conference’s weaker teams in doing so; included were two victories over the Philadelphia 76ers in which the club appeared to be just cruising through. In the first one, five nights ago, they had 58% of their shots, but committed 21 turnovers. Then two nights ago, they were only 38% from the field and failed to cover the 19.5-point impost as it was listed in the NBA betting lines.
That has basically been the story with Indiana over the last five weeks; this team has been absolutely awful when it comes to covering the spread, compiling a record of 2-13-1 in that regard over the last 16 games. Part of it is that they have been playing a lot of non-contending teams during this time and have been overpriced. But they have also lacked some explosiveness on offense. That’s not altogether unexpected, because that’s not really Indiana’s game; their preferred method of operation is to concentrate on the defensive end, where they hold opponents under 42% shooting.
VietBet customers obviously saw Jackson named to his new post with great fanfare, and that seemingly has lit a further fire under these Knicks, who, like the Pacers, have feasted a bit on lesser lights of late. In they six-game winning streak, all of the victories have come against teams who are not projected to be in the playoffs, and not so coincidentally, New York has averaged nearly 113 points per game over this stretch. If you want to talk about a team that has really gotten hot from the shooting perspective, it has been the Knicks, who hit 54% against the Sixers, then followed that up with 52.5% against the Celtics and then 55.3% against Milwaukee.
NBA bettors should take note that the Knicks have now played 13 of their last 17 games over the total that has been posted in the basketball lines, and also that this team is extremely well-rested, having not played for the last three nights. During that time, the New York media has had lots of opportunity to speculate on what the status of people like coach Mike Woodson and star forward Carmelo Anthony is going to be next season, with Jackson getting what amounts to a free hand in terms of making these kinds of personnel decisions. Even Metta World Peace has spoken up; the former Ron Artest, who was left out of the rotation by Woodson and later took a buyout, is talking about how much he loves Jackson and wouldn’t mind coming back next year.
Under a brand-new coach, we would assume.
