Oregon State Beavers vs. Arizona Wildcats Picks: 2010 NCAA Football Betting

Oregon State Beavers
(2-2, 2-1-1 ATS)

Arizona Wildcats
(4-0, 3-1 ATS)

Pac-10 supremacy could be on the line on Saturday night in the desert, as the Arizona Wildcats look to take another step towards the Rose Bowl when the Oregon State Beavers come calling in NCAA football betting action.

The Beavers are finding a way to function right now in spite of the fact that they really have yet to put their best foot forward at this point in the season, and that could be a very scary thing for the rest of the Pac-10. This conference has learned over the last several seasons just how dangerous RB Jacquizz Rodgers and WR James Rodgers can be when given the chance. So far this year, both have been kept relatively in check, as the two only have combined for 989 all-purpose yards in four games. That might sound like quite a lot, but in comparison to last year when the two averaged well over 300 yards per game in all-purpose, this is a significant downgrade. The play of QB Ryan Katz has been okay, but not fantastic this year. HC Mike Riley loves the fact that he has yet to throw an INT this season, but a 51.9 percent completion percentage and an average of 6.79 yards per attempt when you have some of the most lethal men in the country to throw the ball to just isn’t cutting it at this point.

Arizona is on high alert in this game, and it knows it. HC Mike Stoops is clearly reminding his team of just how lethal the Beavers can be. The Cats know that they got away with one two weeks ago in their last game against the California Golden Bears, and many passed that off as a hangover from the big triumph over the Iowa Hawkeyes. If this team is a legitimate National Championship contender, this won’t be a game in which it struggles at all. QB Nick Foles has thrown for 1,089 yards and six TDs this year, and he has thrown the game winning score twice in the dying minutes already. His four picks are probably too high, but a 74.5 percent completion percentage more than makes up for those blunders. This defense ranks No. 2 in the nation right now in total defense at 230.8 yards per game, and the end result has been holding foes to just 11.0 points per game. Opposing offenses have only scored three TDs against these guys this year, all three of which were scored by Iowa.

Don’t kid yourself about how good OSU is. The Beavers have played a very tough schedule, especially away from home, and they are battle tested having run up against the Boise State Broncos and TCU Horned Frogs already. This is a boatload of points to be giving us, but perception suggests that Arizona is the right play. Perception is what built Las Vegas. We’ll run with the visitors, whom we aren’t so sure might not be the better team.
