NCAA Basketball Pick – February 9th

The teams from the SEC are going to be fighting tooth and nail just to get into the NCAA Tournament, and here at Bang the Book, we’re taking a look at another great clash in this conference on the college basketball betting odds. The Missouri Tigers and the Ole Miss Rebels are set for a crucial clash at Mizzou Arena on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. ET.

The Rebs know that they are going to have to get back on the horse against some good teams after getting ripped by the Kentucky Wildcats and Florida Gators over the course of the last two weeks or so. Yes, they did come out and blow the Mississippi State Bulldogs to bits, but all of the good teams in the conference have done that, so it comes as no surprise whatsoever. This is really just a two-man team when you think about it, though. Sure, F Reginald Buckner is a defensive stopper and can get his nose in there and score at times, but F Murphy Holloway and G Marshall Henderson are the men to truly watch out for. These two men are averaging right at 35.0 points per game between them, and Holloway is good for a double-double per night with 10.0 boards per game as well. The team has to do better than it did the first time that these clubs met though, as Ole Miss didn’t even get to 65 points and had to rely upon its defense to get the job done for that victory.

Those Tigers only put up 49 points that night in Oxford though, and it was the continuation of a big time problem that the team has had to bring to the table on the road this year. Missouri just isn’t nearly as good on the road as it is at home, and it’s starting to become problematic. The loss on the road at the Texas A&M Aggies was bad news, and if this one is lost, this could be a team that falls clear out of the NCAA Tournament. Four of the next five are on the road, and the one home game sandwiched in there is against a Florida outfit that already destroyed the Tigers 83-52 this year in Gainesville. The team has to figure out how to get out and run more, something that it does a heck of a lot better at home than on the road. If the Tigers are getting transition baskets, they’re a tough team to beat. Otherwise though, this isn’t the best club in the world.

Missouri is playing with fire right now, and we think that the team could be in for a fight in this one. We definitely want the points on our side, as we think that the Rebs could be in line for an upset to sweep the season series with the Tigers. Ole Miss 78 – Missouri 74
