Pointspread: Ohio State -5.5
Total Line: OFF
Urban Meyer’s quest to lead his Ohio State Buckeyes to this season’s Big Ten Championship and possible berth in the final BCS National Championship faces its second major test in two weeks. Last Saturday, the Buckeyes knocked-off Wisconsin 31-24 in a game that ended as a PUSH to pretty much seal-up a spot in the Big Ten title game out of the Leaders Division assuming they go on to beat Illinois, Indiana and Purdue.
Ohio State has outscored in opponents by a combined 156 points en route to a 5-0 straight-up start. It has gone 3-1-1 against the spread and the total has gone OVER in three of the five games. Braxton Miller got the start at quarterback last week after missing a few games due to an injury, but the Buckeyes now know they have a quality backup in Kenny Guiton, who looked sharp in relief the previous few games. This offense is averaging 48.2 point a game with either player at the helm and it is complementing a defense that is allowing an average of just 17 points a game.
The Wildcats are off to a 4-0 SU start with an even 2-2 record ATS. Total has gone OVER in their last two games after staying UNDER in the previous two. They will be coming off a bye week after rolling over Division IAA Maine 35-21 on Sept. 21 as 28.5-point favorites at home.
Northwestern has relied on a bruising running game to move the ball on offense with an average of 249.5 yards a game. Treyvon Green has led the way with 404 yards on 58 carries for an average of seven yards an attempt. The team’s second leading rusher is quarterback Kain Colter with 237 yards on 39 attempts. He has split time under center with Trevor Siemian and the two have combined for an average of 233.8 passing yards per game.

The Buckeyes are clearly the best team in the Big Ten and one of the top three or four teams in the country, but they are in the unenviable position of getting the best from every team they face especially in a conference game. The Badgers had opportunities to win last week’s game and Northwestern will have some this week as well especially playing this game at home. It will be another nail-biter for Buckeye fans as the Wildcats cover with the 5.5 points.
Ohio State 27 Northwestern 24
