NCAA Basketball Pick – January 7th
The BCS National Championship Game might be tonight, but prior to the kickoff of that one, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish will have a chance to claim a huge victory on the college basketball betting lines on the road at the Cincinnati Bearcats.
Forgive the Irish if they seem a little preoccupied with what’s going on down in South Beach at the end of this game. This is their very first true road game of the year, and it is sure to be a very interesting test against a great UC team. The offensive numbers for this team have been inflated over the course of the last several games, knowing that there have been some just downright bad defensive squads come to play against Notre Dame at home. Now on the road, it’s going to take some really sharp shooting to get the job done from G Jerian Grant and G Eric Atkins on the outside. If these two aren’t knocking down their shots, F Jack Cooley probably won’t be able to do it all in the paint, and that’s when trouble could come calling for Head Coach Mike Bray’s team.
The Bearcats know that they have to get up off of the mat in this game after losing at home to the St. John’s Red Storm 53-52 over the weekend. In fact, it was the second straight loss for Cincinnati at home, as the team also lost to the New Mexico Lobos just after Christmas. It’s not like the talent is lacking on this team by any stretch of the imagination. The three-guard combo of G Sean Kilpatrick, G Cashmere Wright, and G JaQuon Parker has done a lot of damage to a ton of teams this year, and that’s going to continue through the rest of the Big East season, and eventually into the NCAA Tournament as well. Kilpatrick is the vet of the bunch, and he is averaging 17.9 points and 5.7boards per game. Wright is the outside shooter, and he is knocking down 46.2 percent of his long range attempts and is averaging 14.9 points per game. Parker is the streaky senior. He has had games like the one against Wright State when he went off for 21 points, and games like the one against the Johnnies in which he scored just three points.
We’re really afraid that this is the first road game for Notre Dame against a team that has to be hungry to get back in the win column at home for the first time in three games. The Bearcats are 7-2 ATS in hteir last seven games, and the home team has gone 6-0 SU and 5-1 ATS in the last six regular season games in this series. It could be time for UC to take some frustration out on a good team, and this is a bad scheduling spot for the Irish. Cincinnati 73 – Notre Dame 58
