NHL Week 15 Betting Tips
- Updated: January 8, 2014
Wednesday’s slate in the National Hockey League is a bit on the small side, with just three games, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any good wagering opportunities. The best of the bunch is most likely the New York Rangers at the Chicago Blackhawks, where the defending Stanley Cup champions are early -205 favorites with a total of 5.5.
Henrik Lundqvist is expected to get the start for the Rangers, despite Cam Talbot clearly playing the better of the two this season. The Rangers are 13-10 to the over with Lundqvist in goal this season, a far cry from the past five or six years. Chicago is one of the highest scoring teams in the league and the over is 9-6 in Antti Raanta’s 15 starts this year, so the over is definitely worth a look.
Jumping ahead to Saturday, we see the Anaheim Ducks visiting Phoenix, where we’ll once again look for a higher-scoring game than usual and take the over 5.5.
On Sunday, there are seven games on the schedule and several of them look to have the potential to see plenty of scoring, so there’s no reason not to stick with a few over 5.5’s. There are several defensive-minded teams in action, such as New Jersey and Minnesota, which is probably enough to keep the Grand Salami from being an over bet.
The first game is the Islanders at the Dallas Stars, and the Islanders are 12-5 to the over when the total is 5.5, which it almost certainly will be in this case. The Stars have a slight tendency to play over and there’s no reason to expect that to stop here.
The next game once again features the Chicago Blackhawks, this time hosting the Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers are always a threat to allow five or more goals, something they’ve done 11 times this year, while they’ve allowed four goals in 14 games. They do have some talent on offense and should be able to score a few times themselves, making the over worth a look.
