NHL Week 14 Betting Tips

While New Year’s Day is typically thought of as a day of college football, the National Hockey League will be in action with a pair of games, including a good one with Tampa Bay visiting Vancouver. The Lightning have been playing well despite the loss of Steven Stamkos, but have been relying on defense more in the past. The same can be said of the Canucks, so this could be a low-scoring defensive battle and the under is likely the way to go.

On Thursday, the San Jose Sharks host the Edmonton Oilers and will look to keep their torrid pace up at home. The Sharks shouldn’t have any problem scoring against an Oilers’ team that ranks near the bottom of the league defensively. The teams played a relatively low-scoring game the first time they met, as San Jose won 3-1, but believe the goals will come a little more freely in this one and will take the over 5.5.

On the same day, the Buffalo Sabres visit the Minnesota Wild in a match-up of low-scoring teams. The Wild got a bit of bad news regarding Zach Parise and it looks like he’ll miss more time than originally expected. The Wild have tried to run-and-gun without Parise the past two games, both losses, so look for them to revert back to form and try to grind out a win, as they did the first time the two squads met, coming away with a 2-1 victory. This game looks to be a decent spot for the under.

On Saturday, the Canucks visit the Los Angeles Kings in what is becoming a decent Pacific Division rivalry. The Kings have won the first two meetings between the teams, so look for Vancouver to put forth a little extra effort, making them a decent play as a road underdog. The under could also be worth a look, as the two teams are a combined 22-39-17 in totals for the season.
