nhl betting trends december 31NHL – TRENDS OF THE DAY

What better way can one bring in the new year than with a full slate of National Hockey League contests. That is how 2017 will end and take us into 2018 as 16 teams will be in action. While there are many great games on New Year’s Eve, three really stand out, Toronto vs. Vegas, Tampa Bay at Columbus, and Chicago at Calgary.

ATS TRENDS

  • Toronto (-240) vs. Vegas (+200), O/U 6.0

The Golden Knights are currently enjoying a seven-game winning streak, the longest in franchise history for the first year team. That is a lot of momentum to carry into this game and should bode well for them in terms of their ability to cover the spread. Vegas is 10-2 against the spread this month and have gone 6-2 against the spread in home games where the total is predicted to be 6.0. They have also gone an impressive 25-11 ATS in their first season. Toronto is 11-7 ATS in road games where the total is 6.0. They are 6-6 ATS in December. The Golden Knights are the kings of the league right now, and that should continue against a tough Maple Leafs team.

  • Tampa Bay (+225) vs. Columbus (-265), O/U 5.5

Tampa Bay is 9-3 against the spread this on the road where the total is 5.5. They are 10-2 ATS in their last 12 December games and are 13-4 against the spread against winning teams this year. Columbus is 11-4 against the spread in their last 15 games at home where the total was 5.5. However, they are just 6-8 in the last 14 December games against the spread. Tampa Bay is 27-10 overall this season against the spread. Look for Lightning to continue to strike.

  • Chicago (+115) vs. Calgary (-135), O/U 6.0

Two teams that are in desperate need of a victory to keep their playoff hopes alive square off when Chicago visits Calgary. Chicago is 4-5 against the spread in road games where the total is 6.0. They are 18-19 ATS so far this season. The Blackhawks are 2-3 ATS in their last five Sunday games. Calgary is 2-5 ATS in home games where the total is 6.0. They are 18-20 against the spread this season, but are 3-0 in Sunday games. Take Chicago to douse those Flames.

O/U TRENDS

  • Toronto (-240) vs. Vegas (+200), O/U 6.0

Toronto has gone under in each of their last four Sunday games. They have gone under in six of their last 12 games, but have gone over in four of the five games when they are playing their third consecutive road game. The Golden Knights are just scary good now, especially on offense, and that makes going over the solid bet.

  • Tampa Bay (+225) vs. Columbus (-265), O/U 5.5

Tampa Bay has gone over in five of their last six games when they are in the third game of three games in four days situation. They are also 5-1 in their last six games against teams from the Metropolitan Division. Columbus has gone under in seven of their last nine games at home, and have gone under in 19 of their 27 games this season. Look for this game to go slightly over the total.

  • Chicago (+115) vs. Calgary (-135), O/U 6.0

This may be the very best matchup of the day in terms of a “sure thing.” Chicago has gone under in five of their last six games where they were playing on one day’s rest and have gone under in each of their last four games where they had held an opponent to two goals or less in the previous game. The Flames have gone under in each of their last four games and have gone under in each of their last four home games. The total has gone under in 12 of the last 16 games between these two teams. With odds like that, what could you do but take the under.

SU TRENDS

  • Chicago (+115) vs. Calgary (-135), O/U 6.0

Chicago has won six of the last eight meetings between these two teams and has won five of the last seven in Calgary. Those are good odds as well, and say that the Flames have no advantage in being at home. Take Chicago to win this game.

  • Pittsburgh (+225) vs. Detroit (-265), O/U 5.5

The Penguins have won just one of their last six games when playing on one day’s rest. Detroit is 0-5 in their last five games against teams with a losing record, but are 4-o in their last four in games where they have just one day’s rest. The Red Wings have won the last five meetings and 10 of the last 11 between these two teams. Look for that trend to continue.
