NHL – TRENDS OF THE DAY

The National Hockey League season finally continued Wednesday night following the Christmas break with 11 games, however, there is no respite on Thursday. Seven games are on tap including huge games between the Capitals and Bruins, Canadiens and Lightning, Flames and Sharks, and Golden Knights and Kings.

ATS TRENDS

  • Flyers vs. Panthers (-1.5), O/U 5.5

The Flyers are on a roll against the spread of late, going 7-1 in their last 8 road games. However, not all the news is bright. They are 1-5 in their last 6 games against the spread and are 5-11
ATS against teams with a losing record this season. Florida is 16-6 against the spread in games following a three-game unbeaten streak, but they are only 50-68 against the spread in their last two years and have gone 31-60 ATS in games following their goaltender pitching a shutout. The most telling stat is that the Flyers are 4-1 against the spread against Florida in the last five games between these two teams.

  • Golden Knights vs. Kings (-1.5), O/U 5.5

Vegas is 24-11 against the spread this season, and are 4-1 in their five against the spread. They have also gone 10-3 in their last 13 games ATS.  The Kings are 2-6 in their last 8 against the spread and are 1-5 in their last 6 home games against the spread. Taking Vegas in this game looks to be the smart bet for sure.

  • Flames vs. Sharks (1.5), O/U 5.5

Calgary is 4-1 ATS in their last five road games. The Flames are 20—16 ATS on the road when the total is 5.5 over the last two seasons and are 67-60 ATS the spread in December over the last two seasons. The Sharks are 4-1 against the spread against Calgary in their last five meetings. San Jose has played well against the spread against division opponents, going 153-127 at home over the last 21 seasons.

O/U TRENDS

  • Maple Leafs(1.5) vs. Coyotes O/U 5.5

The total has gone under in six of the last seven meetings between these two teams. In Arizona, the total has gone over in each of the last six games. Arizona has gone under in 20 of their last 25 games.

  • Canadiens vs. Lightning (1.5), O/U 5.5

The Canadiens have gone under in five of their last six games. They have also gone under in four of their last five games on the road, but the total has gone over in six of the last nine games between these two teams and over in four of the last six in Tampa Bay. The Lightning have gone over in seven of their last 10 games and have gone over in five of the last six at home.

  • Golden Knights vs. Kings (-1.5), O/U 5.5

Las Vegas has gone under in four of their last six games, but the total has gone over in five of their last six on the road. Los Angeles has gone under in 14 of their last 21 games and has gone under in eight of their last 10 at home.

  • Flyers vs. Panthers (-1.5), O/U 5.5

The total has gone over in four of the last five games for Florida at home, however, it has gone under in five of the last seven games overall. The Flyers have gone under in four of their last six games, but have gone over in five of their last seven on the road. The total has gone under in 14 of the last 21 games between these two teams. The fact that the total has gone over on the road the vast majority of the time lately for the Flyers coupled with Florida going over at home the majority of the time lately makes this look like a lock for the over.
