NHL – TRENDS OF THE DAY
After the New York Rangers and Buffalo Sabers started 2018 with the Winter Classic, there will be a full slate of games on Tuesday, as 24 teams take to the ice in 12 games, with arguably no game being more exciting than the Vegas Golden Knights welcoming the Nashville Predators. There will be a great contest between Columbus and Dallas, who have identical 22-15-3 records, and New Jersey and St. Louis.
Games to Watch
- Boston (-115) vs. New York Islanders (-105), O/U 6.0
The Boston Bruins are 5-o in their last five games when they had two days of rest. They are 6-1 in their last 7 games overall and have gone 5-1 in their last 6 games against Eastern Conference opponents. Boston is also 7-2 in their last 9 road games. The Islanders have gone 16-5 in their last 21 games the game after giving up five goals in the previous contest. They are 14-6 in their last 20 games, but have gone just 3-7 in their last 10 games against teams with winning teams and are 2-5 in their last 7 games against teams in the Eastern Conference.
Head-to-head Boston has won 13 of the last 16 games between these two teams, and the total has gone under in five of the last 6 contests. The Bruins are 7-2 in the last nine meetings and the road team has surprisingly won 9 of the last 12 games.
Look for Boston to keep the road team in its winning ways, and for this contest to stay under.
- Tampa Bay (-135) vs. Toronto (+115), O/U 6.0
Tampa Bay is 12-5-o on the road this season. They are also 8-2-0 in their last 10 games. The Lightning are 4-1 against Eastern Conference foes in their last 5 contests. Toronto is 11-5-0 at home this year, but they are struggling, going 4-5-1 in their last 10. The Maple Leafs are 7-2 in their last nine home games.
In the last five meetings between these two teams, the Lightning are 4-1. The score has gone under in six of the last eight games between these two teams.
Take the red-hot Tampa Bay Lightning to win this game for the total to go over.
- Columbus (+135) vs. Dallas (-155), O/U 5.5
Columbus is 8-8-0 on the road this season, and have gone 3-5-2 in their last 10. The Blue Jackets are 1-4 in their last 5 and have lost their last 5 road games. Dallas is 14-4-1 at home and are 6-2-2 in their last 10. The Stars have won four of their last 5 games against teams with a winning record and have won four of their last five.
The Blue Jackets have won 5 of the last 6 games between these two teams in Dallas and four of the last five overall. The score has gone over in five of the last 7, but the under has been the case in 7 of the last 10 in Dallas.
Columbus has been dominating this series of late, but look for the trend to be bucked. Take Dallas and for the game to go under.
- Nashville (+120) vs. Vegas (-140), O/U 6.0
Nashville is 11-6-1 on the road and are 6-2 in their last 8 games on the road against a team with a winning record better than .600 and 5-2 against all teams on the road in their last 7. The Predators are 18-8 in their last 26. Vegas is the best team in the NHL at home, going 16-2-0. They are 9-0-1 in their last 10 games.
Vegas is amazing at home this season and that streak will continue in this game, but this should be a close contest. The total will likely be 6, so avoid this line altogether.
- New Jersey (+135) St. Louis (-155), O/U 5.5
St. Louis is 10-5-2 on the road this season. They are 6-2-2 in their last 10. The Devils have won their last four games against Western Conference teams and are 5-2 in their last 7. St. Louis is 13-8-0 at home this year but have been abysmal of late, going 3-7-0 in their last 10. The Blues have won 19 of their last 26 against Eastern Conference teams.
The Devils have won only one of the last 12 meetings between these two teams, including losing the last 5 in St. Louis. The total has gone over in 8 of the last 10.
We are bucking the trends in this one. Take the Devils to beat the struggling Blues, and look for this to finish 3-2.
