TRENDS OF THE DAY
It’s New Year’s Day, and that means the annual Winter Classic, played outdoors. This year features the New York Rangers vs. the Buffalo Sabres. Monday’s game is going to be a chilly affair in Buffalo, as the temperature at game time is expected to be 13 degrees, but snow is supposed to hold off until later in the evening, which is at least some consolation for players who will be chopping at the bit to get off the bench so they don’t have a chance to cool off.
This is the only game schedule for New Year’s Day.
New York favored by 1.5
New York -170
Against the Spread
The Rangers are 1-4 in their last five games against the spread against the Buffalo Sabres. Buffalo is 8-3 in their last 11 games ATS. This makes it a good bet to take the Sabres in this contest ATS, especially considering that the weather will likely play a considerable factor in the contest.
New York has gone under in five of their last six games. In the last six games between theset wo teams, the total has gone over in four of those contests, but the total has gone under in eight of the last 11 between the Rangers and Sabres in Buffalo. Buffalo has gone over in the four of their last six, but has gone under in 16 of their last 24. If snow should come early this will slow the puck down to a crawl, making the under the way to go.
Who Will Win?
The Rangers are 1-4 straight up in their last 5 games. They are 10-3 in their last 13 against Buffalo SU and are 6-1 against the Sabres straight up in the last seven in Buffalo. The Sabres are in a rut, going 5-18 in their last 23 straight up. This would seem like The Rangers are the very best option, but this is the kind of game that gets both teams fired up.
There should be a huge crowd for this contest, being played at Citi Field where the Buffalo Bills play. This could mean a crowd in the seventy thousands, which should be rocking for the Sabres. Plus, it is a showcase game, and with the weather expected to bitter, there is no doubt that the odds seem to be in the favor of the Sabres. Take Buffalo to win this one, 3-2.
