A rare win for us last time out and now we’re faced with just two games on the slate today, as the NHL is in a pattern of a lot of games or just a few. Bettors are pretty much in agreement on both games tonight.
Ottawa at Detroit: The Red Wings are -142 and the total is 5.5-under (-130). The Senators are having a few problems finding the back of the net with a shooting percentage of 8.8%, which is one reason why they’re averaging 2.8 goals this season. The Red Wings are averaging 9% shooting and are scoring 2.7 goals. Ottawa averages 30.2 shots per goal and Detroit puts 30.6 shots per game on net.
Both teams have struggled when short-handed, as the Senators are allowing 23.1% and Detroit 19%, which is a key reason why both teams are allowing more than 3.1 goals per game, with the Sens being a little bit worse.
Ottawa is 11-9 in road total on the season, with their defense being the primary culprit, while the Red Wings are 10-10 at home, scoring 2.9 goals and allowing 3.0 goals. Both teams have played a little tighter in division games, with the Senators 4-7 in the division and the Red Wings sporting a 3-11 record.
The Senators are 12-12 after a loss and Detroit is 8-6 after a victory. I made this one 5.8 goals. The Red Wings have seen the last four games land under the number. Tough call here, but will grab the under.
Chicago at New York: The Rangers are -140 and the total is 5.5-over (-130) and I made this one 5.6 goals. The Blackhawks have had scoring issues this season and are shooting 8.5% on the season, while New York is shooting 9.9% and scoring 3.2 goals per game. Chicago is 9-10 in totals when on the road, while the Rangers are 12-10 in home totals. The Blackhawks have played three straight overs and the Rangers have gone under four straight games.
New York has seen just 4.6 goals scored per game over their last five, while Chicago has seen an average of 6 goals in their last five.
The Rangers are 12-8 following a victory, with Chicago posting a 7-11-1 record after a loss. This is obviously a big revenge game for New York, who lost 6-3 at Chicago earlier this season. New York is 7-4 when playing Western Conference teams and Chicago is 7-10 against the East.
