NFL Westgate SuperContest Picks & Consensus Week 16

There are only 10 picks left in the Westgate SuperContest. For some, those 10 picks could result in life-changing money. For others, those 10 picks are on a string that is being played out. Those are the two extremes in the SuperContest. Many others are vying for a spot in the money or are following up a big first week in the Mini SuperContest. Whatever the case, it’s been another fun and fascinating ride and we have two weeks before the ride gets shut down for the season.

A lot of money is at stake with the next 10 picks, as the majority of the $4.3 million prize pool is still up for grabs. It can be frustrating at times because these last two weeks feature a lot of injuries, bad weather, and weird circumstances, so it is somewhat akin to a fantasy baseball championship decided in the last two weeks of the season when rosters have expanded and motivation is all over the map. Just with a lot more money on the line.

By now you know the deal. $1500 for the traditional, $5000 for the Gold, five picks per week against stale lines released on Wednesday, the top 100 get paid in the traditional, the winner gets paid in the Gold, and this contest is really, really effing hard.

We head into Week 16 basically playing out the string with our three entries, but pride is still a powerful tool when the name of our site is on all three entries. The BangTheBook Podcast entry really has the most to gain this week and next week. A horrific 10-20-5 start dug a very deep hole for BangTheBook Radio host Adam Burke, but he’s hit at 71 percent over the last seven weeks to get to 34-35-6. There is a big difference between finishing on the plus side and finishing on the minus side.

Our BangTheBook traditional entry entered Week 15 with an outside shot at some cash, but a 3-2 record pretty much signaled an end to those hopes. Still, a 42-30-3 record in the NFL is nothing to sneeze at. The problem is that 58 percent in this contest doesn’t really get you anywhere. Our BangTheBook.com Gold entry is 40-32-3 on the year.

The cut-off for the money right now is 46.5 points and the lowest success rate for any contest participant at that point is 62.2 percent. @Pigskin_Junkies and Rush YYZ 2112 are tied for the lead with 55 points. Team Cleveland 1 has 54.5 points. 7_Out is fourth with 52 points and former leader Personal Gourmet is tied with Al The Sly 2 in fifth place with 51.5 points.

The Gold field is paced by There Can Be Only 1 with 49.5 points. @Pregame is second with 48.5 points. Lightning 2 is third with 48 points.

For us, we’re just hoping to finish strong and have something to be proud of when all is said and done. In hopes of doing that, here are our Week 16 selections:

BangTheBook (42-30-3, 58.33%)

3 Chargers -4.5

5 Cowboys -7.5

10 Panthers +3.5

24 Cardinals +14

32 Raiders +2.5

BangTheBook Podcast (34-35-6, 49.28%)

3 Chargers -4.5

8 Bills +13

10 Panthers +3.5

28 Steelers +6

32 Raiders +2.5

BangTheBook.com (40-32-3, 55.56%)

3 Chargers -4.5

5 Cowboys -7.5

10 Panthers +3.5

24 Cardinals +14

32 Raiders +2.5

We’ve got three matching picks across our entries, as our Gold card and our BangTheBook.com card look identical again this week. The differences are the Bills and Steelers on Adam’s BangTheBook Podcast card. Adam is 24-10-1 over the last seven weeks to get back to something respectable with his record, so he’s hoping to keep that momentum going.

For those following along with our Golden Nugget progress, we’ve got Wake Forest, Army, Chargers, Cowboys, Panthers, Cardinals, and Raiders there.

With no Thursday Night Football game this week or next week, the consensus finished up 5-11-1 in those games. That may be something to remember for next season, as it is very tough to peg that game and also get all five plays together for the weekend. It could give some astute players an edge, however, as any game you can get on the field is important.
