NFL Week 16 Betting Trends
- Updated: December 19, 2013
The college football regular season is over, but the NFL still has two key weeks left in the regular season. There is still a lot to be decided in the playoff chase. Baltimore made things a lot more interesting with their upset win in Detroit on Monday night. The NFC North is wide open now, and the AFC North isn’t locked up like most assumed. The Saints and Panthers are tied atop the NFC South as well, and those two teams meet this Sunday. Plenty of great games on the slate.
BangtheBook has offered a trends to consider article during the baseball season, and now we’ll be having an NFL trends to consider article during the football season as well. This will give bettors a good look at some of the most important trends to consider before placing a bet this week. Let’s look at trends to consider for games this coming weekend.
-When the schedule first came out, many thought that this weekend’s game between Denver and Houston would be a possible Super Bowl preview. The Broncos still have a chance to play their way to the Super Bowl, but the Texans have a stunningly bad 2-11 record on the year. Houston is 3-12 ATS in their last 15 games. The oddsmakers continue to be too high on this team. Denver is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 following a loss.
-How did Dallas manage to lose last weekend? It’s a question many have asked in the past week. Dallas is 7-7 and fighting for their playoff lives now. The Cowboys will be in Washington to take on their rivals, but the Redskins have been hapless all year. The oddsmakers are reluctant to install the Cowboys as a big favorite. Dallas is favored by just 2.5 points here. Dallas is 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games against Washington.
-New Orleans and Carolina is the game of the week in the NFL. The Saints are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 road games. They destroyed Carolina a couple weeks ago, but that was in the Superdome. Carolina is 22-8-1 ATS in their last 31 December games. The road team is 19-7 ATS in the last 26 meetings between these two.
-New England’s game in Baltimore this weekend is a huge one for both teams. The Patriots will be in the playoffs, but they are playing for seeding and home field advantage. The Ravens have a real shot to get in the playoffs now, but they can’t afford a loss. The Patriots are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 road games. The underdog is 4-0-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two.
-San Diego’s huge win at Denver last week was impressive, but they have to take care of business this week against Oakland. The Chargers are just 2-8-1 ATS in their last 11 following a win, so stringing together good efforts has been an issue for San Diego.
-Sunday Night Football will feature a key matchup between the Bears and Eagles. Both of these teams come in at 8-6 and with a real chance to win their division. The Eagles are just 5-20-1 ATS in their last 26 home games. The Bears are 2-9 ATS in their last 11 against the NFC. The underdog is 8-2 ATS in the last 10 meetings between these two.
