NFL Week 14 Trends: End of Season trends
- Updated: December 7, 2012
Week 14 in the NFL is a transition week for many teams as they try and decide if they will be in the post season or planning for the NFL draft. That is the focus when handicapping games this late in the season. Although the league is in transition, NFL trends still play a vital role and will reveal situations that otherwise could be missed.
A perfect example is in the Cowboys vs. Bengals game. Both teams are playing to get into the playoffs and every wins matter at this point in the season. The Cowboys won a divisional game against the Philadelphia Eagles, but that win does not mean they will have momentum coming into this game. The NFL Week 14 trends indicate that the Cowboys are 5-16 ATS in their last 21 games following a win. The Bengals on the other hand thrive after a victory. The Bengals are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a win and will host the Cowboys in what essentially becomes a playoff game.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers came up short on the road against the Denver Broncos and return home to play the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles may not have a shot at the post season but they are getting a solid effort from the young kids that are getting a shot at playing time. However for the Bucs it is not always Home Sweet Home. According to the NFL trends for week 14, the Buccaneers are 9-23-1 ATS in their last 33 home games and 3-13 ATS in their last 16 home games vs. a team with a losing road record. This could be a big letdown spot for a team trying to make the playoffs.
Trends don’t always tell the story on who will win or cover, but during transition week they are important to look at.
