NFL Week 12 Free Pick: San Diego Chargers vs. Indianapolis Colts

San Diego Chargers
(5-5, 5-5 ATS)

Indianapolis Colts
(6-4, 6-3-1 ATS)

The San Diego Chargers have caught fire and are peaking at the right time, and they can get back above .500 if they can beat the NFL odds on Sunday Night Football against the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Field.

This is absolutely a familiar position for the Chargers to be in, as they are used to coming back from a terrible first half of the season to run away from the AFC West. They are still odds on favorites on the football odds to win the AFC West, and many feel as though they are ready to just blow right past the Kansas City Chiefs and Oakland Raiders. QB Philip Rivers could become just the third man in NFL history to throw for 5,000 yards this year, as he is already over 3,000 and has the possibility of hitting the 3,500 yard mark in this game. There are a lot of question marks for him to deal with on offense though, this weekend. WR Vincent Jackson is set to come back to the lineup after finally reporting to camp and serving his three game suspension. However, it is really unknown whether he’ll be able to step in and make the same sort of impact that he had in years past. TE Randy McMichael, TE Antonio Gates, WR Legedu Naanee, WR Malcom Floyd, WR Patrick Crayton, and RB Ryan Mathews are all listed as either questionable or out on Sunday, and obviously with this many injuries and question marks, Rivers has to be wondering what he is really going to have to work with.

QB Peyton Manning doesn’t want to talk about injuries. He is still leading the game’s fourth ranked offense in spite of the fact that the only man he has had in the lineup in every game this year has been WR Reggie Wayne. These two can book their flights to the Pro Bowl already. Manning has thrown for 3,059 yards and 20 scores against seven picks, and he is right there in the race for the MVP. Wayne has 71 receptions for 865 yards and four TDs. WR Austin Collie has 562 yards and six TDs, while WR Pierre Garcon has 406 yards and a score on the year as well. All of the running backs on this team are really banged up still. RB Donald Brown is probably going to be carrying the load one way or the other, as it has been awhile since either RB Joseph Addai or RB Mike Hart has played. The defense for Indianapolis is continually getting burned on the ground, allowing 136.7 yards per game, the third most in the league.

The Colts are one of these teams that just keeps finding a way to win games. They’re not in the playoffs right now, but then again, neither are the Chargers. It’s not often that you see an underdog that is a big time public choice, but the Bolts are there this week. Just as the New England Patriots were huge public favorites against Indianapolis last week and we cashed in on Manning and company, we plan on doing the exact same thing on Sunday Night Football.
