NFL Upset of the Week: Week 16
- Updated: December 20, 2012
The Cincinnati Bengals and the Pittsburg Steelers are in the middle of a race for the playoffs as both teams are winding down the stretch battling for the wildcard spot. At one point in the season it looked like the Baltimore Ravens were the team to beat and after losing back-to-back games in ugly fashion they still managed to get into the playoffs.
Now it is up to the Bengals and the Steelers to face off to see who will claim the AFC wild card spot. The Steelers come limping into this game off of two losses to the San Diego Chargers and the Dallas Cowboys. The Steelers now have a healthy Ben Roethlisberger under center, but their luck has not changed as they cannot buy a victory. With this game being in Pittsburgh, the Steelers are in a must-win situation.
The Bengals are another story. They are starting to play sound football on both sides of the ball. Quarterback Andy Dalton is maturing very quickly and has become a reliable signal caller in this league. His main target, wide receiver AJ Green is a pro bowl caliber player that can change the game. Green will draw the most attention from a Steelers defense that has been very vulnerable of late.
The Steelers are 3-9-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last 13 against the AFC, 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 home games and 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall.
The Bengals are 13-5 ATS in their last 18 games following a win, 3-1-1 ATS in the last five games in December and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall.
Home field advantage is not much of an edge in this series as the road team is 15-6-1 ATS in their last 22 meetings. The Bengals are in a prime position to beat the Steelers in the NFL upset of the week.
