|466: SAN FRANCISCO
Last Updated: 2017-11-01
The San Francisco 49ers are 0-8 for the first time in their history, and this obviously was not the way that first-year head coach Kyle Shanahan planned. However, there was an understanding that there was some rebuilding to do, and along those lines, a big trade was made this week. On Sunday the Niners will play host to the Arizona Cardinals in a game that begins at 4:05 PM ET at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, and while Fox network televises it, VietBet patrons will have the opportunity to place wagers on it while it is happening, through the mechanism provided by Live Betting Ultra.
San Francisco has used two different starting quarterbacks this season, and for the past two games they have started rookie CJ Beathard, a third-round draft pick out of Iowa. But just a couple days ago, they need the move to acquire Jimmy Garoppolo from the New England Patriots in exchange for a second-round draft pick. They’re taking something of a gamble there, because Garoppolo could be a free agent after the season is over, and he and Beathard have started the same number of NFL games. But Shanahan thinks that his new acquisition can be the quarterback of the future.
Both of these teams will be starting different signal-callers than they did the first time they met, in Week 4. Arizona (3-4 straight-up, 1-6 ATS) will go with Drew Stanton, who replaces Carson Palmer, who broke his left arm and will be out for about eight weeks. So they will need to run the ball more than ever, and for that, they will call on Adrian Peterson, who came a very big against Tampa Bay in his first game in a cardinal uniform, with 134 yards, but when a little flat against the Los Angeles Rams in a 33-0 loss in London. Now with Arizona coming off the bye week, there is at least some time to regroup.
In the odds at VietBet upon which we will make our NFL picks in this game, Arizona is the slight favorite on the road:
Arizona Cardinals -2.5
San Francisco 49ers +2.5
Over 39.5 points -110
Under 39.5 points -110
In a previous meeting, Arizona came away with a 18-15 overtime victory, and they did not score a touchdown until the extra session. They did put the ball in the air 51 times, but had only 51 yards rushing. San Francisco has six of their season total of 17 total sacks in that game.
Speaking of sacks, Arizona only has 13 on the season, and that is quite a come down from last year’s total. Chandler Jones has eight of those sacks, so the rest of the stop unit has really come up lame in that area. Both of these defenses have underachieved; Arizona is 30th in the NFL in points allowed per drive, while San Francisco ranks just below them at #31.
Garoppolo will not be a starter immediately, but he will learn the playbook as quickly as possible and definitely be pressed into service. Beathard has completed just below 53% of his passes for 5.9 yards per attempt, and after the Niners have lost five straight games by three points or less, they have been defeated 40-10 (by Dallas) and 33-10 (by Philadelphia) in the last two games, both of which Beathard has started. The defense did to do badly in that game, holding the Eagles to 304 yards, but San Francisco is not getting in the win column; they have lost 22 of their last 23 games.
At least there is a experienced quarterback at the helm for the cards, and with Peterson, there is a ground-gaining element. Arizona also has much better weaponry in terms of the wide receiver corps, and we say that even in consideration the fact that Pierre Garçon, who injured his neck last week, is expected to play. We’ll lay the points with Arizona on the road, as the 49ers remain winless.
