NFL Pick: Green Bay Packers @ San Diego Chargers Preview
- Updated: November 4, 2011
There is a lot of talk going around right now about the Packers going 16-0, and the truth of the matter is if they can pass this test, there might not be all that many that could stop them from doing just that. Last week, the team was on bye, which really does set up nicely for this trip to the West Coast. There is just nothing that this team does wrong. Sure, the defense looks like it has some holes in it, but largely, this is the exact same unit that led the team to the Super Bowl a season ago. We already know that QB Aaron Rodgers is ridiculous, completing just a stupid 71.6 percent of his passes for 2,372 yards and 20 TDs against just three picks. He’s got a tremendous set of receivers, including TE Jermichael Finley, WR Greg Jennings, WR Jordy Nelson, and a slew of other receivers. The ground game has been a question to say the least, but we think that both RB James Starks and RB Ryan Grant are capable. This year, there just aren’t the injuries that this team had to deal with a season ago, and as long as that stays the case, the Pack are the most dangerous team in the league.
The Chargers are just a foolish team when you think about it. There’s no doubt that this squad is tremendously talented as well, just like Green Bay, but virtually every big time game, the squad ends up losing, usually in dramatically close fashion. Last week against the Kansas City Chiefs, the team had a botched quarterback/center exchange that ultimately cost it the game, and the lead in the AFC West. It was a prototypical San Diego game. The team was favored by a short spread, yet it was a game that it was expected to win. However, right now, the Bolts really have their backs against the wall. Yes they’re at home, but they have a tremendous team, the best in the league for sure, on the other side of the field, and the likelihood is that RB Ryan Mathews and RB Curtis Brinkley are probably not going to be playing in this one. That means a ton of pressure is going to be on the shoulders of QB Philip Rivers, who has been tremendously inadequate all season long.
Green Bay Packers @ San Diego Chargers Pick: Yet for some reason, this is the game that the Chargers feel like they’re going to win. We just don’t believe that this Green Bay team is good enough to run the table, and this is a very likely spot to get picked off. Just when we are all set to turn out back on the Bolts, that’s when they’ll win a game like this one, show the rest of the league that, even with a ton of injuries to deal with, they still have the talent to get the job done against anyone… only to probably end up losing late in the year. But for now, this is a team that we are going to back.
