- Updated: September 21, 2011
The NFL season heads into week three and the football landscape is starting to take shape. Before picking out your best bets for the week in the NFL, it is important to survey the opening lines in the league and track movement along with public consensus and smart money.
Here is a look at some of the opening NFL lines from BetDSI for week three along with movement and public consensus.
Detroit (-4) over Minnesota
The Detroit Lions are the surprise team of the year up to this point and they recently mowed down the Kansas City Chiefs. Meanwhile the Vikings have yet to win a game and the Donovan McNabb experiment looks like it is a failure. So it’s a bit surprising to see that the Lions are a meager four point road chalk in this matchup. In fact the line has dipped to 3.5 at some outlets, indicating smart money is coming in on this game. The public is all over the Lions, so expect this number to go up.
New England (-9) over Buffalo
The New England Patriots are at it again. Tom Brady is leading an unstoppable offense and they seem to be putting up points against everybody they play. The Buffalo Bills are surprising this year and are undefeated headed into this matchup. Sports bettors will quickly be reminded that the Patriots have owned the Bills in the past. This is the kind of year when people back the Patriots regarding of the spread expecting good things from Brady.
Atlanta (-1) over Tampa Bay
The Atlanta Falcons are off a very big come from behind win against the Philadelphia Eagles and now hit the road to play Tampa Bay. The Falcons showed in week one that they are a much different road team than they are at home. Smart money caught on to this trend and the early money is on the Bucs at home. So much so, that the line has moved to show the Bucs a small chalk in this contest.
Green Bay (-3.5) over Chicago
The Packers look like world beaters so far this year and they head to the Windy City to take on the Bears in a big divisional game. The Bears have looked great in week one and pathetic in week two. With that type of uncertainty this line could go with public opinion and the Packers.
