NFL Divisional Playoff Betting Previews- New Orleans Saints vs. San Francisco 49ers
Point Spread: New Orleans -3.5
Total line: 47
The New Orleans Saints will pit their unstoppable offense against San Francisco’s shutdown defense this Saturday afternoon at Candlestick Park in the Divisional Round of this year’s NFL playoffs. The game is set to get underway at 4:30 p.m. (ET) and it will be broadcast nationally on FOX.
New Orleans left little doubt that it primed for a Super Bowl run after crushing Detroit 45-28 in last Saturday’s Wildcard Round matchup as a 10.5-point home favorite. The victory raised its record on the year to 14-3 straight-up and a profitable 13-4 against the spread. The Saints will now take their show on the road where they are 5-3 SU and 4-4 ATS. The total has gone ‘over’ in 10 of their 17 games.
While everyone knows how well Drew Brees and this New Orleans’ offense can move up and down the field on the fast track in a done, the Saints’ speed will be challenged a bit at Candlestick as they are just 2-3 ATS this season on grass. The total also went 2-3 in these five games.
San Francisco earned the No.2 seed and first-round bye in the NFC by virtue of a 13-3 SU record and was also very profitable ATS at 12-3-1. It compiled a 7-1 SU record at home this season and an even more impressive 7-0-1 ATS. The total went 7-9 in its 16 games.
If the 49ers are going to move on to the conference championship, it will be behind a defense that finished the regular season ranked fourth in total yards allowed and second in points allowed. One area of concern is the fact that this unit’s weakest link was against the pass where it was ranked 16th in yards allowed.
The Saints are 8-0 ATS in their last eight games as favorites and 13-3 ATS in their last 16 games overall. The total has gone ‘over’ in their last five playoff games as favorites.
The 49ers are 3-0-1 ATS in their last four home games as underdogs and 13-3-1 ATS in their last 17 games overall. The total has stayed ‘under’ in their last four playoff games as underdogs.
Head-to-head in this series, New Orleans is 10-3 ATS in the last 13 meetings and 5-1 ATS in its last six trips to San Francisco. The total has gone ‘over’ in four of the last six games.
Stick with the past trends and hot hand in this matchup as the Saints are basically unstoppable at this point and extend their current winning streak to 10 in-a-row on Saturday.
