NFC Top Three Matchups – Week 5 Handicapping Report

Another week of games are in the books in the NFC and Atlanta and Arizona each remained undefeated while New Orleans is still searching for its first win of the year. The following is a handicapping guide for the top three division matchups in the NFC for this week’s games with lines provided by 5Dimes.

Thursday, Oct.4

Arizona Cardinals (-2.5) vs. St. Louis Rams Total Line: 38.5

The surprising Cardinals moved to 4-0 straight-up (3-1 against the spread) with a 24-21 overtime victory over Miami this past Sunday as four-point favorites at home. The total went OVER the 39-point line, but it had stayed UNDER in their previous three games.

St. Louis grinded-out a 19-13 win over Seattle as a 2.5-point home underdog in Week 4 to run its record to 2-2 SU and 3-1 ATS. The total has now stayed UNDER in its last two games after going OVER in its first two.

Arizona has won 10 of the last 11 meetings between the two teams SU and is 5-0 SU in its last five trips to St. Louis. The Cardinals are also 7-2 ATS in the last nine meetings with the total staying UNDER in seven of those games.

Atlanta Falcons (-3) vs. Washington Redskins Total Line: 50

Atlanta improved its record to 4-0 SU (3-1 ATS) with a tight 30-28 victory over Carolina this past Sunday as a seven-point favorite at home. The total easily went OVER the 48.5-point line after staying UNDER in its previous two games. The Falcons have scored the most points (124) in the NFC.

Washington is actually the second-highest scoring team in the conference with 123, but has just a 2-2 record both SU and ATS to show for it. The Redskins did manage to get by Tampa Bay on Sunday 24-22 as three-point underdogs on the road. The total has gone OVER in all four of its games.

The Falcons are 6-3 SU in their last nine games on the road. However, it is just 4-9 SU in their last 13 games against the Redskins and 2-6 SU in their last eight games played in Washington. The total has stayed UNDER in four of the last five games there.

Seattle Seahawks vs. Carolina Panthers (-2) Total Line: 44

Seattle remains on the road for the second week in a row after last Sunday’s loss to the Rams. It is now 2-2 both SU and ATS with the total staying UNDER in all four games. The Seahawks have given-up of total of just 58 points in its first four games.

Carolina fell to 1-3 SU (2-2 ATS) with Sunday’s tough loss to the Rams and the total has now stayed UNDER in all four of its games. The Panthers have been outscored by 29 points which is the largest gap in the NFC so far.

The Seahawks are 3-11 SU in their last 14 games on the road and 7-17-1 ATS in their last 25 road games. The total has gone OVER in eight of the Panthers last 11 games and they are 2-4 both SU and ATS in their last six home games.
