Sadly, the National Football League is quickly heading towards the end of the season. With that in mind there are only a few weeks left to enjoy betting on pro football. That is why we have once again gathered all of the betting bits that you need to win big by betting on football.
New York Giants
The big news coming out of New York is that the Giants have decided to bench quarterback Eli Manning after 210 consecutive starts. From a betting stand point it has not had a huge effect. In fact once it was announced that he would be sitting for the game against the Raiders this week, the line only moved a half point. Geno Smith gets the start and he is 6-2-2 against the spread (ATS) when he is getting seven points or more.
The Cowboys entered Thursday on a three game losing streak and that is usually a good time to back a team. If a team is on a losing streak of three games or more by 17 or more points and less than 40 percent of the spread bets is on this team they are 86-57-2 against the spread.
The Eagles are not only winning football games, but they are covering the spread and bettors are noticing. The Eagles are one of the most popular bets this week as they are getting 70 percent of the bets in the game against the Eagles. They have covered all five games in which they are six or more point favorites and they are winning those games by an average of 17.6 points. That is just one reason, the public likes them so much.
If you are going to bet on the Redskins now or in the near future you are going to have to keep an eye on injuries. Tight end Jordan Reed has been injured all season and he has missed five straight games. They also have some injuries on the offensive line like Trent Williams which all points to a tough time for Kirk Cousins under center.
New Orleans Saints
The New Orleans Saints are one of the best teams in the NFC this season and it is mainly due to a decent defense and a strong running game. However that defense is slipping. The Saints have allowed 57 points in the last two weeks. That is eight more points that the Saints have allowed in the previous four games combined.
The Panthers are in line for a playoff spot and they still have a shot to win the division. Football bettors also know that they are a good bet. They are 4-0 ATS in the last four games overall and they have cashed in seven of the last eight games on the road.
The Falcons are in a three way fight for the NFC South and they cannot afford to lose a game. That is not going to be easy this week as they go up against the well-rested Minnesota Vikings. Luckily for the Falcons when they start clicking they do very well. They are 13-6 against the number at the betting window following a straight up win. When the Falcons start streaking it’s time to break out the bankroll.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers travel to Green bay to take on the Packers with both teams missing their starting quarterbacks. That is not good news for a Bucs team that is just 2-7-1 ATS in the last ten games overall. To make matters worse the Bucs are winless ATS in the last six games against the NFC and they are just 1-5-1 ATS in the last seven games on the NFL Highway.
The LA Rams could fall victim this week to the Cardinals if you believe in a handicapping angle called the sandwich spot. The Rams just played two very tough games against the Vikings and the Saints and now will have to try and get up for a game against the Cardinals with a game against the Philadelphia Eagles next week. If you believe in this wagering angle you may want to stay off the Rams.
San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers finally got a glimpse of Jimmy Garoppolo in very limited time and he got a touchdown. This week he gets a start on the road against the Bears. When it was announced that he would be playing, the line moved three points signifying his worth at the betting window. The public is buying in as well as 58 percent of the bets are on the 49ers in this game.
The Seattle Seahawks are a very good team, but right now the public is backing off this team. It could be due to the fact that they are just 1-4 ATS at home or that they are playing the Eagles are 9-2 ATS this season. This line has moved nearly three points making it one of the biggest moves of the week.
The Arizona Cardinals are having an forgettable season and the biggest reason is turnovers. The Cardinals average 1.6 turnovers per game and that is good for 26th in the National Football League. They also have special teams problems as Phil Dawson has missed six of 23 field goals many in makeable spots on the field. It is tough to bet on a team that is so turnover prone.
Green Bay Packers
The Packers have some good news as it is reported that quarterback Aaron Rodgers may come back into action in two weeks. That makes the next two games against the Buccaneers and Browns very important. The Packers would love to go 2-0 so Rodgers could push them into the playoffs. Rodgers is worth 6-7 points against the spread which is the most in the NFL.
The Detroit Lions are having an incredible season and quarterback Matthew Stafford always has the Lions in every game that they play. However the closer it gets to Christmas the worse Stafford gets against the spread. Dating back to 2003 if you bet on Stafford and the Lions in every game after November you would have lost 16 units over that time span. It may be time to pump the breaks on the Lions.
The Bears will face the 49ers for Jimmy Garoppolo and although the line has moved in favor of the 49ers, the Bears are still a favorite. The Bears have already lost outright once this season as a favorite. Under head coach John Fox the Bears are 0-6 against the spread when they are tabbed as favorites.
The Vikings are in a very good spot this week against the Falcons. Due to a game on Thanksgiving the Vikings have had ten days to get ready for this game and they have had some solid play by their offense. The Vikings offense has scored 30 points or more in three of the last four games that they have played in.
