New York Yankees
Many believe that the young Yankees team is not even supposed to be in the ALCS Championship game, and that their time to shine is going to come in the next season, but the Yankees are proving everyone wrong and are playing without any pressure, something that has definitely helped them overcome the Cleveland Indians in the first round of the Playoffs and something that could help them against the favored Astros team.
On Saturday afternoon, the Yankees will send the 23-year old right-hander Luis Severino to the mound and it will be his 3rd start in this year’s playoffs. Severino had a pretty amazing game against the Indians in game four, when he held the Indians to only three runs in 7 innings. However, against the Astros, Severino has struggled, allowing them 9 runs in 7.2 innings, while also recording 1 win and 1 loss in two starts against the Houston Astros team. In addition, Severino has a run average of 2.98 and a WHIP of 1.04. Over the course of the season, Severino has recorded 230 strikeouts in 193.1 innings pitched, giving up 150 hits.
The Yankees are allowing 7.8 hits per nine innings and are 5th in the league in team earned run average with 3.72. They have allowed 192 home runs in this season.
The game one of the ALCS Championship Series was all about Dallas Keuchel, who continued his dominance over the New York Yankees. Keuchel ended up allowing only 4 hits and a single walk, while at the same time recording 10 strikeouts. His seven scoreless innings paced the Astros to a 2-1 win. Jose Altuve was also huge for the Astros on Friday night, collecting three hits, stealing a base and scoring a run.
In game 2 of the Series, the Astros will send Justin Verlander to the nod, who allowed only one run in 2.2 innings against the Red Sox in game four of the ALDS Series. After being acquired from Detroit, Verlander is 7-0 with a 1.48 ERA (in his 6 starts). He will face Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez, and Greg Bird for the first time this season at the Minute Maid Park, where he has a 4-0 record with 2.82 mark since joining the Astros.
New York Yankees at Houston Astros Betting Trends and Prediction
The New York Yankees are 86-78-4 against the Over/Under and are 93-75-0 against the run line. In addition, they are 1-6 in their last 7 postseason road games and 0-6 in their last 6 ALCS games. On the other side, the Houston Astros are 84-73-9 against the Over/Under and are 87-79-0 against the run line. Most notably, the Astros are 6-0 in Verlander’s last 6 starts 6-1 in their last 7 Championship games at home.
Verlander’s performance in September was simply mind-blowing and I cannot overlook that in making my pick for Saturday afternoon. On that note, I will stick with the Houston Astros and expect them to make a commanding 2-0 lead in this ALCS Championship Series.
My Pick: Houston Astros -1.5 (+155)
