The Stanley Cup Finals will begin on Friday night in NHL betting action when the New York Rangers travel to face the Los Angeles Kings on NBC Sports Network at 8:22 p.m. ET on the ice inside the Staples Center. The Rangers finally got on the board with a fortunate win in Game 4 to force the series back to Los Angeles where now they face yet another do-or-die situation.
The Rangers got the puck to bounce, or more specifically, stop in their favor on Wednesday night as they thwarted the Kings title hopes for at least one more game with a stunning 2-1 win at Madison Square Garden. As we had said was needed G Henrik Lundqvist had the game of his life and with the help of a little snow had not one, but two shots stop on the goal-line to preserve the win for his team. Do not be fooled by the language of that statement, Lundqvist was spectacular as he did everything in his power to make 40 saves on 41 shots in the win. In the first period Benoit Pouliot deflected a John Moore shot into the back of the net to give New York an early lead. Then veteran Martin St. Louis found the top shelf for what would eventually become the game-winning goal. Only a repeat performance from Lundqvist will keep this group of Rangers skating past Game 5 as he must be superhuman to get out of Los Angeles with a win. New York is just 1-4 in its L/5 trips to Hollywood and this trip doesn’t look to be very promising.
The Kings put the pressure on after a sluggish first period, but they couldn’t get the equalizer to send the game into overtime even though they had a plethora of chances. In the second, Dustin Brown took off on a shorthanded situation and beat Lundqvist for his team’s only goal that did end up being at even strength. It had to be somewhat of a disappointing loss for Los Angeles as it surprisingly gave everything it had to finish off the series in New York. The Kings couldn’t have asked anything more of G Jonathan Quick who was amazing once again as he saved 17 of the 19 shots he saw on the night. That had normally been enough for this offense that normally puts up over three goals per game. However, the bad luck at the goal-line cost the Kings the victory and the Stanley Cup on Wednesday. As a heavy ‘favorite’ to get this done on Friday night the Kings seem to have everything in their favor including the trend that says they are 4-1 in the L/5 meetings with the Rangers and have dominated at home as we noted before.
The Kings know they let an opportunity slip by the wayside in Game 4 and they are going to make sure there are no mistakes about who the best team in the NHL was this season on Friday. We expect to see a crowning of sorts in Game 5 as Los Angeles will dominate New York and win their second Stanley Cup in the last three seasons. The Kings have won four of their L/5 home games in these playoffs with the ‘over’ cashing at a 4-0-1 rate in those contests. New York Rangers @ Los Angeles Kings Pick: Los Angeles Kings
