New York Jets vs. Denver Broncos NFL Free Picks for Week 6

New York Jets
(4-1, 4-1 ATS)

Denver Broncos
(2-3, 2-3 ATS)

The New York Jets are trying to assert themselves as the best team in the AFC, and in order to do that, they’ll invade Invesco Field at Mile High Stadium in an NFL betting battle against the Denver Broncos.

As the top rushing team in the NFL, the Jets make no bones about what they’re trying to do offensively. RB Shonn Greene and RB LaDainian Tomlinson have combined to carry the ball a whopping 138 times, an average of 27.6 carries per game. Tomlinson has proven that he still has something left in the tank, contrary to the popular belief of the San Diego Chargers. He has 435 yards this year, an average of 5.7 yards per carry. Greene has 280 yards and is averaging 4.5 yards per tote. The key for the New York offense though, has been the fact that QB Mark Sanchez hasn’t been turning the ball over. He had a ton of picks last year at this time, but has yet to throw his first this season. WR Santonio Holmes played his first game this season after a four game suspension, and he had three catches for 41 yards. With Holmes, WR Braylon Edwards, WR Jerricho Cotchery, and TE Dustin Keller to work with, the Broncos are going to have their work cut out for them to cover all of the weapons. Defensively, the Jets have given up an average of 16.2 points per game, which is uncharacteristic for a HC Rex Ryan ‘D’.

The good news for the Broncos is that RB Knowshon Moreno and WR Demaryius Thomas are going to be back in the lineup for the first time in weeks, which is going to make life a lot easier on QB Kyle Orton. No one has really had more pressure on his shoulders in the NFL than Orton has with the Denver offense. He has thrown the pigskin a whopping 213 times this year for 1,733 yards and eight TDs. His top target is the top receiving in the NFL, WR Brandon Lloyd. Lloyd has caught 30 passes for 589 yards and three TDs. Don’t forget about WR Eddie Royal and WR Jabar Gaffney either. Those two are combining for 60 catches and 657 yards on the season. This is an offense that really has had no semblance of a running game this year, as demonstrated by the fact that Moreno still leads the team in rushing in spite of the fact that he has only played in two of the five games. No rusher is averaging more than 2.8 yards per carry this year on the team. This defense might rank No. 25 in the NFL in rushing, but this is also a unit that kept RB Chris Johnson down against the Tennessee Titans two weeks ago.

The Jets might be in some trouble in this game. The short passing game could really frustrate this all out blitz of New York, and Denver’s rush defense might be able to do just enough to keep down the offense. Sanchez could be in for his first bad outing, as this Broncos secondary is quite talented and could force a plethora of picks.
