An Eastern Conference Second Round series continues Friday night when the New Jersey Devils visit the Carolina Hurricanes for game two. Carolina was impressive in game one and will look to mitigate the Devils speed, again, in game two. Below is my NHL pick for the New Jersey Devils vs Carolina Hurricanes.

New Jersey Devils Need to Regroup

New Jersey came off a fantastic game seven win Monday night and did not look ready for game one of this series. It was a slow start for the Devils, and it ultimately led to a 5-1 Carolina Hurricanes win.

Carolina came out of the gates buzzing and grabbed a 1-0 lead midway through the first period. The Hurricanes kept the pressure on and led 2-0 heading into the second. After making it 3-0 early in the second, New Jersey changed their goaltender and got one goal back to make it 3-1 after two. It was all Carolina in the third period as they scored two unanswered goals and now have a 1-0 series lead.

In the game one loss, Nathan Bastian scored the only Devils goal, and he was assisted by Michael McLeod. Akira Schmid stopped eight of the 11 shots he faced before getting pulled for Vitek Vanecek. The goalie stopped 10 of the 11 shots he faced in relief.

The Carolina Hurricanes Looked Great in Game One

Carolina will be buzzing after that game one performance, and they will feel confident heading into game two. In the game one win, Brett Pesce, Seth Jarvis, Jesperi Kotkaniemi, Brady Skjei, and Jesper Fast all got on the scoresheet. Five Hurricanes recorded an assist in the game one win.

Frederick Andersen saved 17 of the 18 shots he faced on the night and the Hurricanes killed off both Devils power plays.
