Nevada Wolf Pack vs. Utah State Aggies Preview and Pick

Nevada Wolf Pack
(8-13, 9-11 ATS)

Utah State Aggies
(20-2, 10-10 ATS)

It’s not all that often that the Utah State Aggies get to make an appearance on national television, but that’s what’s happening on Wednesday night in NCAA basketball betting action. They’ll play host to the Nevada Wolf Pack in a late night showdown in Logan.

The Wolf Pack have really been snake bitten this entire season, as they only have eight wins against 13 losses. However, they do already have five wins in conference play, and they really might be able to be contenders in the WAC Tournament when push comes to shove. Nevada has won four in a row, though the final three of those came in Reno. This is obviously the toughest test of the season for a team that has already been trashed by 14 points at home by these Aggies. There are four players on this team that are averaging between 13.4 and 13.7 points per game this year, and any of Dario Hunt, Deonte Burton, Olek Czyz, and Malik Story can go off for some huge games any given night. They all pick up the slack of the other, and they all make up for the fact that there isn’t anyone else on the club that is even putting together two buckets on the average night. The defense has been iffy this year, but the schedule has been absolutely brutal. Averaging 71.6 points per game allowed just hasn’t cut it to date, and it has to improve for any hopes of an upset.

There aren’t many teams in the WAC that are noticeable this year, but the Aggies are the only one of the bunch that has any chance of squeaking into the NCAA Tournament without the conference crown. The Aggies survived a pair of road games this past week, including potentially the toughest road of the year at the Hawaii Warriors over the weekend. They survived with an 89-84 OT victory. Utah State hasn’t lost this year at home, but it is only 4-6 ATS in this span. This is a team that is very well rounded on both sides of the ball, and there is enough depth there to keep pace with some of the best teams in the land. This is why the Aggies are ranked in the Top 25 in the land. Tai Wesley is shooting a whopping 61.0 percent from the floor this year, and he is the top big man on the team at 14.3 points and 7.8 boards per game. Brian Green is coming off of two phenomenal games, scoring 22 against the Warriors and 25 against the Spartans. These were the two best games in the sophomore’s career, and he is up to 11.8 points per game.

Don’t get us wrong. The Aggies are great. However, they really aren’t all that much better than the Wolf Pack are. They’ll end up having to lay a tremendous amount of points, and we won’t be surprised at all if Nevada finds a way to not just stick inside the college basketball odds, but to really make this game very, very close.
