The college hoops betting action continues Thursday, February 17, 2022, with the Mountain West Conference clash from Provident Credit Union Event Center in San Jose, California, so we bring you the best Nevada vs. San Jose State betting pick and odds.

The Wolf Pack and Spartan take on each other for the second time in just three days. Last Monday, Nevada outlasted San Jose State 81-72 as a 14.5-point home favorite. This time around, the Wolf Pack are listed as 8-point road favorites on BetDSI Sportsbook

Nevada beat the Spartans for its second straight win

The Nevada Wolf Pack improved to 5-8 in conference play following that nine-point victory to the Spartans. It was their second win in a row, as the Wolf Pack put an end to their six-game losing streak with an 85-72 victory at Utah State this past Friday.

Nevada outscored San Jose State 42-29 in the second half. The Wolf Pack shot 56.1% from the field and 55.6% from beyond the 3-point line, while sophomore big man Will Baker tortured the Spartans for 23 points and six rebounds.

Junior guard Grant Sherfield leads the charge for Nevada, tallying 18.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 6.3 assists a night. The Wolf Pack score 105.9 points per 100 possessions (110th in the country) and allow 102.4 to their opponents (167th). Nevada is No. 133 in the NCAA NET Rankings and No. 128 in the KenPom rankings.

San Jose State aims for its first conference win

The San Jose State Spartans fell to 0-13 in conference play following an 81-72 defeat at Nevada. It was their 13th loss in a row, as the Spartans’ free fall started with a 20-point defeat at Fresno State on January 11.

San Jose State battled bravely against the Wolf Pack to cover a huge 14.5-point spread. The Spartans posted 11 offensive rebounds and handed out 18 assists, but it wasn’t enough because of another lousy defensive performance. Junior guard Omari Moore led the charge with 22 points, six boards, and four assists, and he’s been the Spartans’ best player so far this season, averaging 13.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per contest.

The Spartans are No. 292 in the latest NCAA NET Rankings and No. 289 in the KenPom rankings. They score 100.3 points per 100 possessions (220th in the nation) on 36.4% shooting from deep (54th). The Spartans surrender 110.6 points in a return (317th) on 46.4% shooting from the field (332nd) and 35.6% from downtown (294th).

Nevada vs. San Jose State Pick

Just two days ago, the Wolf Pack failed to cover a huge spread, but they showed who’s a better team in this matchup. Hereof, I’m expecting them to beat the Spartans once more and, hopefully, cover the number this time around.

The Spartans will be keen to finally grab their first win in the conference play. We should see an interesting battle, but the Wolf Pack have to take full advantage of San Jose State’s leaky defense and get an important victory.

Pick: Take Nevada -8.0 at -110

The Total:

The previous encounter between Nevada and San Jose State has flown over a total of 143.5 points, and I’m expecting to see more of the same when the Spartans welcome the Wolf Pack. I’ve mentioned how bad San Jose State’s defense has been thus far, and the Wolf Pack haven’t impressed either.

Furthermore, Nevada loves to push the ball in transition, recording 70.5 possessions per 40 minutes (43rd in the country). San Jose State averages only 65.6 possessions per 40 minutes (277th), but I doubt the Spartans’ chances to slow down things against Nevada.

Pick: Go over 145.5 points at -110
