Nets vs. Bulls in Game 5: Who Has More Left in the Tank?

NBA: Playoffs-Brooklyn Nets at Chicago Bulls

NBA Playoff Betting – Nets vs. Bulls in Game 5: Who Has More Left in the Tank?

It has been an eventful series between the Chicago Bulls and the Brooklyn Nets, and so far it has been the defense and experience of the Bulls that has been a deciding factor in bringing this team to within one victory of advancing to the next post-season round. Now the Nets try to stay alive with a win at the Barclays Center, with tipoff time slated for 7 PM Eastern.

Here is the matchup at a glance:

Chicago Bulls at Brooklyn Nets
Game 5 – East Playoffs (Bulls lead 3-1)
Monday, April 29 – 7 PM ET
Barclays Center – Brooklyn

After what transpired in Game 4, you’d have to wonder what these teams will do for an encore.

In the NBA playoff betting odds that have been established by BetAnySports on this game, the Nets are favored to stave off elimination:

BetAnySports.comBrooklyn Nets -5.5
Chicago Bulls +5.5

Over 180.5 Points  -110
Under 180.5 Points  -110

Nets win game  -250
Bulls win game  +210

You’d have to say that the Chicago Bulls have made a remarkable comeback, when you consider how hopeless they looked in losing to the Nets on this floor in Game 1. They have no energy, no offensive rhythm, and no spirit, and when they went down 25 points at the half, they folded the tent. Tom Thibodeau was hesitant to take chances with Joakim Noah, who was nursing his foot injury. And it was time for this team – and the BetAnySports customers who were its backers – to regroup for Game 2.

Well, regroup they did. They held Brooklyn to 35% shooting in the second game, putting five players in double figures. They continued the defensive display in Game 3 at the United Center, holding the Nets under 35%.

Game 4, of course, will go down in history, as one of the more remarkable contests of this, or any year, for that matter. With less than four minutes remaining the Bulls were down by 14 points, but little Nate Robinson literally took this team and out it on his back, teaching the rest of the NBA the meaning of the term “instant offense.” He scored twelve points in a row at one point and had 23 in the fourth quarter. The game went into one overtime, then two, then three. Robinson fouled out, so he didn’t even make it to the end, but he wound up with 34 on the game and Chicago went up three games to one with a 142-134 victory.

So now you have to ask which team might have more gas left in the tank.

Noah was not limited in terms of his minutes on Saturday. He went almost 39, in fact, and responded to that particular challenge with 15 points and 13 rebounds, blocking for Brooklyn shots. But that was a lot of pressure on his foot, and with only a day of rest you have to wonder whether his time will have to be rationed. Kirk Hinrich logged over 59 minutes, with Luol Deng at almost 57 and Carlos Boozer 50. The Nets got nearly 58 minutes out of Deron Williams the other day, and each of the other four starters (Joe Johnson, Brook Lopez, Reggie Evans, Gerald Wallace) all went at least 47 minutes. That game went so long that Evans actually had 15 points.

The Bulls are obviously a solid favorite to win the series, according to the pro basketball odds that are posted right now, checking in at -460, while the Nets are at +365. It is clearly gut check time for Brooklyn, which missed 16 foul shots in Saturday’s defeat. In the $1 Million Charles Jay / BetAnySports Spring-Summer Showdown, the simulation we’re playing, we’ll do s slight lean to the home team to keep this thing alive.
