We have four college football games on the schedule for Friday, October 7, and this conference clash is one of them, so make sure you don’t miss out on the best Cornhuskers vs. Scarlet Knights betting pick and odds.

Rutgers is looking for the first conference win when they welcome Nebraska to SHI Stadium on Friday. The Cornhuskers are 3-point favorites on Bovada Sportsbook, while the total is set at 52 points. These conference foes have previously met in 2020, and the Cornhuskers won that game 28-21 in New Jersey.

Cornhuskers defeated Indiana for the first conference win

The Nebraska Cornhuskers bounced back from back-to-back losses to Georgia Southern and Oklahoma with a 35-21 home victory over the Indiana Hoosiers. Nebraska recorded its first conference win and now improved to a 2-3 overall record. The Huskers were better in total yards (385-290), first downs (22-14), and ten minutes more of possession.

Casey Thompson completed 18 of 27 passes for two touchdowns and one interception. He also added a rushing TD even though he rushed for –32 yards on six carries. One of his TD passes was a 71-yard bomb to Trey Palmer in the fourth quarter, while Thompson’s other TD pass went to Oliver Martin. Palmer and Martin combined for 222 receiving yards on 11 catches. Anthony Grant led all the runners with 136 yards on 32 rushes. On defense, Garrett Nelson recorded two sacks, while Nick Henrich, Quinton Newsome, Isaac Gifford, and Luke Reimer had five tackles apiece.

WR Isaiah Garcia-Castaneda sat out the last game with an unspecified ailment, and it is unknown if it will keep him out of Friday’s matchup with Rutgers.

Scarlet Knights were dismantled by Ohio State

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights opened the new NCAAF season with three consecutive wins but then lost the following two games to the Iowa Hawkeyes and Ohio State Buckeyes. The latest one to the Buckeyes was quite painful as the Scarlet Knights allowed a season-high 49 points and scored a season-low ten. Rutgers took a 7-0 lead, but Ohio State controlled the tilt since and allowed just 187 yards and 12 first downs to the Scarlet Knights.

Evan Simon completed ten of 19 passes for a miserable 74 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Sean Ryan, who led the team in receiving yards with 40, caught that lone TD pass from Simon, while Samuel Brown V was the best Scarlet Knight on the ground with 79 yards on 15 carries. Christian Braswell and Deion Jennings were the most productive on defense with seven tackles each.

Trends:

Nebraska:

  • 4-1 ATS in the last five Friday games

Rutgers:

  • 2-5-1 ATS in the last eight games overall
  • 1-6 ATS in the last seven home games
  • 0-3-1 ATS in the last four conference games

Nebraska Cornhuskers vs. Rutgers Scarlet Knights Pick

I know this is college football, but I personally can’t stand teams who don’t have a passing game and quarterbacks who are dreadful at passing the ball. Evan Simon is such a QB; he threw for 640 yards in five games! Rutgers is averaging just 161.2 passing yards per game opposite Nebraska’s 260.0. Both teams are good in run offense, and although the Scarlet Knights have a better defense, that will not help them here to avoid a defeat. Nebraska won each of the last four H2H duels.

Pick: Take the Cornhuskers at -2.5 (-120)

The Total

Rutgers failed to score more than 16 points in the last three games, but given they are facing a soft Nebraska defense, I expect the hosts to score 20+ in this one. Nebraska allowed 21+ in four of five games this year and scored 28+ points in four of five. Over is 4-1 in the Scarlet Knights’ last five home games, while Over is 4-1 in the Cornhuskers’ previous five games after allowing less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game.

Pick: Go Over 51.5 points (-110)
