This Saturday’s action gets underway with a Big 12 battle between the Texas Longhorns and the Baylor Bears in a showdown of state rivals. The tip-off is slated for 1 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast nationally on CBS.
It has been a bumpy road for Texas over the past few weeks with just one win its last four games. It snapped a three-game skid this past Tuesday with a 62-55 victory over Iowa State, but could not cover as an eight-point home favorite. The Longhorns are now 13-7 straight-up on the year, but just 5-10 against the spread. They are 1-6 SU (2-5 ATS) on the road and the total has gone 4-3 in the seven games.
Texas is averaging 74.6 points a game but shooting just 44.4 percent from the field, which is ranked 134th in Division I. J’Covan Brown leads the team in scoring with 19.1 points a game and Sheldon McClellan is second with 11.5 points while shooting 45.7 percent from the floor.
This past Tuesday night, Baylor snapped of two-game losing streak of its own with a 77-65 win over Oklahoma as a 5.5-point road favorite. The losses to No.5 Kansas and No.2 Missouri derailed the Bears ascent to the top of rankings as they are now 18-2 SU on the year and 7-6 ATS. They are 10-1 SU at home and 2-2 ATS. The total has gone ‘over’ in three of the four games.
Baylor remains one of the best shooting teams in the nation with a field goal percentage of 49.6. It is averaging 78.2 points a game while holding its opponents to 63.5 points a game. The Bears have five players scoring in double figures led by Perry Jones III’s 14.2 points a game. He also leads the team in rebounds with 7.5 a game.
The Longhorns are 2-6 ATS in their last eight games against the Big 12 and 5-13 ATS in their last 18 games overall. The total has gone ‘over’ in five of their last seven games on the road.
The Bears are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 conference games and 5-12 ATS in their last 17 home games. The total has gone ‘over’ in five of their last six games against the Big 12.
Head-to-head, Texas is 1-5 both SU and ATS in the last six meetings and the total has gone ‘over’ in seven of the last 10 games. Stick with the recent trends in this one as Baylor wins and covers as a moderate home favorite on Saturday.
