NCAA Hoops Free Pick: Georgetown Hoyas vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish

(11-1, 9-2 ATS)
Notre Dame Fighting Irish
(11-1, 4-3 ATS)
The Big East schedule kicks off on Wednesday night for two of the best teams the best conference in the country. NCAA basketball betting fans will love to sink their teeth into the clash in South Bend between the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Georgetown Hoyas.
Georgetown still only has that blunder against the Temple Owls to speak of this year, and the team has gone 3-0 SU and against the college basketball odds over the course of the last three games. Though wins against the Appalachian State Mountaineers and Loyola Maryland Greyhounds weren’t all that impressive even though both wins came by 20+ points, beating down the Memphis Tigers by 17 at FedEx Forum is a totally different story. If this game is won, the coast may very well be clear for the Hoyas at this point for quite some time until that home date with the Pitt Panthers on January 12th. Austin Freeman isn’t quite averaging 20+ points per game any longer, but he is certainly the catalyst for an offense that is dropping 81.0 points per game and ranks No. 2 in the country in shooting at 52.8 percent. Freeman is averaging 18.9 points per game and has one of the best shooting strokes in the country at 56.8 percent. However, as we have come to see, this is a team that is build both inside and out, and there are literally no weaknesses.
Notre Dame went through a great non-conference season as well, with its only loss coming to the youthful Kentucky Wildcats. However, unlike Georgetown, the Irish have a brutal start to the Big East campaign and very well might find themselves dropping out of the Top 25 in a couple weeks if one of these games don’t bounce their way. After this, Notre Dame has to travel to the Carrier Dome to take on the Syracuse Orange and then come home for the Connecticut Huskies just three nights later. Head Coach Mike Bray’s team is one of the few in the nation that is averaging more points per game than the Hoyas are at 81.3, but this team is constructed totally differently. The men on the inside aren’t quite as bulky as those of G’Town, but the Irish are still one of the better rebounding teams in this conference. Watch for Tim Abromaitis in this one, as he is a monster both as a scorer (16.1 PPG) and on the glass (7.5 RPG). He is one of four players that are averaging double digits in scoring, with Scott Martin not too far behind at 9.6 points per game.
Normally, playing road teams in the Big East is a recipe for death, especially when you’re talking about laying points on the road. However, no matter how “square” of a play it might be, we have absolutely no reason to doubt that the Hoyas can get this done in South Bend. They’re clearly a better team and should be able to use grit and that efficient offense to tame a great foe on the road.
